Ann's Tip: The iridescent paper has a great flexible quality to it that makes it work well for rolling beads. Other stiffer papers such as foil board and holographic paper are a bit more difficult to work with. If your beads start to unroll, apply a small dab of Tacky Glue on the ends to keep them secure, then apply a coat of Diamond Glaze over the bead.

Instructions

  1. This necklace is 27” long and uses 37 paper beads. If you want a shorter or longer necklace, simply make less or more beads.
  2. Trace a Long and Skinny bead on the back of white iridescent paper, with the wide end of the bead flush with the edge of the paper. Turn the template around and trace another of the same bead right next to the first, edges touching, do this until you’ve traced 18 beads. This make the most efficient use of your paper, and saves you from cutting out each bead individually.
  3. Use the same technique to trace 9 Circle beads out of green iridescent paper and 10 Short and Skinny Beads out of blue iridescent paper. Cut out all beads (I used a paper trimmer to make it faster).
  4. Follow the instructions on the template to roll all your beads. For the short and skinny and the circle beads, I found that using a quilling tool for rolling was very helpful. After you’re done rolling, apply a coat of Diamond Glaze if desired, and let dry. The glaze will help protect your beads and give them a shiny finish.
  5. Cut 30” of Aqua Blend Sparklers. Separate 3 strands. Tape the ends together to your work surface. Thread the other end through a beading needle (or any needle that fits).
  6. String 6 clear glass beads onto the necklace. String the rest of the beads in this pattern: blue, clear, white, clear, green, clear, white, clear. Repeat this pattern until you’ve used all the paper beads, then string on 6 clear glass beads at the end. Remove the taped end and tie the two ends together in a strong knot.
