So Big
By LeNae Gerig
Nothing complements those bright little boy photos quite like primary colors and fun shapes. In LeNaes So Big layout, she combined papers, tags, alphabet tiles and ribbon fragments from Busy Scrappers Solution Boys: Baby & Toddler Papers with just a few extra embellishments like buttons and knotted ribbons.
I really took advantage of the coordinating colors and patterns in this paper collection by layering and overlapping all of the elements, LeNae says. Since the eye moves in a Z formation throughout the page, starting in the top left corner, I combined tag and artwork cut-outs with alphabet tiles in that corner to create a focal point. Then, I carried the eye through the page by overlapping alphabet tiles on top of photos, overlapping photos, and overlapping alphabet tiles horizontally across the bottom border of the background paper.
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Use the red linen with border paper as the background. Mat the rectangular photo on navy weave paper and trim the mat to 1/8. Mat again on light yellow cardstock and trim the mat to 1/16. Mat the square photo on light yellow cardstock and trim the mat to 1/16. Using a glue stick, adhere the photos to the page with the rectangular photo overlapping the square photo as shown.
- Cut out the blue tag with striped border and attach it in the top left corner of the page. Cut out the alphabet tiles to spell so. Adhere the o to the tag at a slight angle using a glue stick, then attach the s on the tag, overlapping the o, using foam mounting tape. Cut out the loved ribbon fragment from the artwork and attach it to the tag using foam mounting tape. Cut a 3 length of navy grosgrain ribbon and tie a knot in the center. Attach the knotted ribbon to the top of the tag using a Zot.
- Cut out the alphabet tiles to spell big and attach them along the top of the rectangular photo using foam mounting tape. Cut out the alphabet tiles to spell the name, then attach them along the top of the border on the background paper using foam mounting tape. Cut out the smile ribbon fragment from the artwork and glue it in the lower left corner of the square photo using a glue stick.
- Computer journal onto light yellow cardstock, leaving room on the right side of the journaling to add the circle tag. Ink the edges of the journaling with black, then attach below the rectangular photo using a glue stick. Cut out the orange circular tag and attach it to the page using a glue stick, overlapping the right edge of the journaling. Cut out the word cute from the artwork and attach it to the tag using foam mounting tape. Cut a 3 length of navy grosgrain ribbon and tie a knot in the center. Attach the knotted ribbon to the top of the tag using a Zot.
- Thread white embroidery floss through the holes in each of the buttons, knotting the floss on the front. Attach the green square button to the tag in the upper left corner of the page and attach the red and orange round buttons to the border on the background paper using Zots.
Sophie
By Susan Cobb
The Girls: Baby & Toddler Papers patterned papers and coordinating cut-outs come in traditional pinks and purples, along with greens, yellows, reds, blues and browns for a new twist on the popular girl theme! In Susans Sophie layout, she took advantage of these great bright colors with yellows, blues and muted reds in her color scheme. She used alphabet tiles and artwork cut-outs to accent the page, then included some brads and ribbon to add to the theme.
Since the background paper in this Sophie layout is printed with a vertical border, I separated my layout into blocks, rather than filling the whole page with photos and embellishments, Susan says. I matted my photo with a large border, then I cut strips of patterned paper to add around the photo mat. The paper strips make the photo stand out from the background paper while giving it visual weight on the page. I also cut out one large block of solid colored paper to layer artwork, journaling, ribbon and alphabet tiles on top of. Adding the elements of your page in blocks will work with the border on the background paper to create visual balance.
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Use the yellow texture with words border paper as the background. Mat the photo on yellow textured paper and trim the mat to 1/4. Using a glue stick, glue the photo in the top right corner of the background paper. Cut two 6 3/4x1/2 strips and two 5 3/4x1/2 strips of squiggle stripes paper. Using a glue stick, glue the strips around the edges of the matted photo.
- Cut an 8 1/2x3 1/2 piece of solid salmon paper. Computer journal onto yellow textured paper and crop to a 6 1/8x1 7/8 rectangle. Cut out the little angel and girl brand artwork. Glue the journaling and artwork to the solid salmon paper, as shown. Add a turquoise brad to the top of the girl brand artwork. Cut a 9 1/2 strip of ivory grosgrain ribbon and attach it to the solid salmon paper, 1/2 up from the bottom, wrapping the ends around the back of the paper and securing on the back. Cut out the alphabet tiles to spell the name, then attach them along the ribbon strip using a glue stick. Cut a 7 length of ivory grosgrain ribbon and tie it into a bow. Attach the bow the right end of the ribbon strip using a Zot.
- Cut out the sunshine and giggles artwork and mat on solid salmon paper, then trim the mat to 1/16. Glue the artwork vertically down the left side of the photo using a glue stick. Computer journal the date onto yellow textured paper and mat on solid salmon paper, then trim the mat to 1/16. Glue the date to the bottom of the squiggle stripes paper strip below the photo. Add a turquoise brad to the top of the date. Cut a 7 strip of ivory grosgrain ribbon and tie it into a bow. Attach the bow in the bottom left corner of the photo using a Zot. Add one turquoise brad to each end of the striped portion of the border on the background paper.
