Mad About Pool Parties
By Shauna Berglund-Immel

Celebrate sizzling summer weather with a refreshing pool party page! Shauna used the contents of July’s Personal Shopper kit plus a couple extra tools to create this hot double-page spread. Fabric stickers and fabric-covered brads add great texture to the page while chipboard and foam tape boost the layout with extra dimension. Fun fill-in-the-blank journaling is a unique way to add personality to your layout–fill in the blanks yourself, or have the subject of your photos fill them in!

Supplies:
From the July Personal Shopper Kit:

  • yellow suns with stripe border (2 sheets), bright stripe papers solid gold and solid blue papers plus artwork
  • black cardstock
  • rectangular and square chipboard pieces
  • black label holders
  • silver Pinz
  • gingham letter fabric stickers
  • blue gingham brads
  • light green mini brads

Additional Supplies:

Instructions:
For the Left Page

  1. Use one sheet of yellow suns paper as the background. Place the paper with the stripe border on the left and ink the paper edges black. Use a black pen to add zig-zag penwork overlapping the seam between the yellow sun and stripe border portions of the paper.
  2. Use a lime green pen to fill in the blanks of the pre-printed journaling. Add faux-stitching penwork down the left and right sides of the journaling and ink the edges. Mat the left and right edges of the journaling on black cardstock, trimming the mat to 1/16". Mat again on bright stripe paper with the stripes running horizontally, trim the mat to 1/4" and ink the edges. Frame the “summer” artwork in one black label holder. Wrap the label holder around the left edge of the matted journaling and add a light green mini brad to each of the holes. Glue the journaling about 1" from the left side of the page.
  3. Sand the edges of two 2" square photos. Mount each photo on a square chipboard piece and ink the edges of the chipboard. Mat one chipboard piece on solid blue paper and the other on solid gold, trim each of the mats to 1/16" and ink the edges. Mat each again on black cardstock, trimming the mats to 1/8". Glue the photos vertically down the top right side of the page.
  4. Add two faux postage stamps at varying angles in the bottom right corner of the page, attaching one with glue stick and one slightly overlapping the other with foam tape. Add one gingham brad to the edge of each of the postage stamps. Select initials and numbers to represent the year from the gingham letter stickers. Mat each sticker on white cardstock and trace around the edges of each sticker with a black pen. Trim the mats to 1/16" and ink the edges. Attach the letters at varying angles next to the photos and add the numbers around the postage stamps.

For the Right Page

  1. Use the other sheet of yellow suns paper as the background. Place the paper with the stripe border on the right and ink the edges. Add zig-zag penwork overlapping the seam between the yellow sun and stripe border portions of the paper.
  2. Cut an 11"x5 3/4" piece of black cardstock and glue horizontally across the bottom of the page. Mat a vertical photo on solid blue paper, trim the mat to 1/16" and ink the edges. Glue the photo over the right end of the black cardstock piece, leaving a 1/8" border of black cardstock around the top, right and bottom edges of the photo. Paint one side of a small rectangular chipboard piece black; let dry. Ink the edges of the “warm sun” word fragment and glue across the painted side of the chipboard piece. Sand the edges of the chipboard, then glue at an angle over the bottom right corner of the photo.
  3. Mat letter stickers to spell “mad” “pool” and “parties” on white cardstock, tracing around the edges of each with a black pen. Trim the mats to 1/16" and ink the edges. Glue the letters at varying angles over the left side of the black cardstock piece, attaching every other letter with foam tape, and add the “about” artwork to spell “mad about pool parties”.
  4. Mat a 7"x5" horizontal photo on solid gold paper, trim the mat to 1/16" and ink the edges. Mat again on black cardstock, trimming the mat to 1/8". Frame the “memories” artwork in the other black label holder. Wrap the label holder around the right edge of the matted photo and add one light green mini brad to each of the holes. Cut out the small circular blue sun artwork and glue it over the flat end a Pinz. Clip the Pinz to the top left edge of the matted photo, then glue the photo in the top right corner of the page.
  5. Mount the “fun in the sun” artwork on a large rectangular chipboard piece and glue the chipboard overlapping the bottom left edge of the matted photo. Use foam tape to attach the third postage stamp in the top left corner of the page. Add a blue gingham brad to the left edge of the postage stamp and attach the lemon artwork over the right edge of the stamp with foam tape.

Matchbook Birthday Card
By Susan Cobb

Super simple cards (that don’t look super simple!) are easy to recreate with Personal Shopper. Each Personal Shopper kit includes a blank card and a card design, plus all the papers, quotes and embellishments you need to recreate the design. With everything already pre-sized for you, all you have to do is cut, glue and add a couple special accents for a lovely handmade card in just minutes! Susan created a unique matchbook-style closure for this chic birthday card by folding up the bottom of the card to create a flap–just tuck the card front into the flap and you’re good to go!

Supplies:
From the July Personal Shopper Kit:

  • green textured and green stripe paper pieces plus quotes and flower artwork
  • white cardstock
  • antique copper diamond clips
  • white brads
  • 1/4" wide green grosgrain ribbon
  • 5"x6 1/2" blank white card

Additional Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Turn the card so the fold runs along the top and trim 1 1/2" off the right edge, leaving a 5" square card. Glue the green textured paper even with the top edge of the card, then trim the bottom edge of the card front even with the bottom edge of the green textured paper. Fold the bottom edge of the card inside up 3/4" to create a flap that covers the bottom edge of the card front, then cover the flap with the wide green stripe paper strip.
  2. Mat the left edge of the card quote on the 1/4" wide green stripe paper strip, then glue the matted quote centered over the card front. Add one white brad to the card quote between “birth” and “day”. Punch a 1/4" circle out of the excess from the 1/4" wide green stripe paper strip and ink the edges, then glue over the top of the brad.
  3. Fold a 1" length of green grosgrain ribbon in half and secure the loose ends behind the top of the small flower artwork. Glue the flower over the right side of the card quote, then accent with a diamond clip.
  4. Cut out the second card quote and run the excess 1/4" wide green stripe paper strip diagonally across the top left corner of the quote, trimming the excess even with the edges of the quote. Glue centered on the inside of the card, 1/2" from the fold, and accent the right edge with a diamond clip.
  5. With the bottom flap folded up, lay the large flower artwork centered over the flap and add a white brad to the center, going through both the flap and the back of the card. Punch another 1/4" circle out of the 1/4" wide green stripe paper and glue it over the top of the brad.
