Crisp, clean and classic—Shauna’s choice of papers and embellishments is perfect for a little boy’s layout. “Boy pages can be really tough!” says Shauna, speaking as a mother. “I’ve found that a basic stripe background paper is a great place to start. It’s non-themed so it works for any occasion, and the classic pattern is one you can use for any age.”

“I love using a variety of coordinating embellishments on boy pages,” Shauna adds. “It means I can keep my layout fairly simple, but still get a great effect with texture, dimension and color. Having different embellishment types, from fabric to vinyl, adds a unique look to the page—the look is casual and fun. Of course, a blue fabric pocket is a perfect embellishment for a little boy!”

Instructions:

  • Attach a piece of printed ribbon horizontally across the bottom of the striped background paper. Secure the ends at the backside of the page.
  • Mat the photo on red scratch paper, then on white paper. Ink the edges with black and adhere to the striped background paper.
  • Cut a 2 1/2 “x 11 1/2” strip of white paper. Ink the edges with black. Mat on red scratch paper and trim to 1/8”. Ink the edges with black. Trim “Boy” Overlay™ to 3” x 12”. Use blue mini brads to attach the Overlay™ to the white paper, securing only the top and bottom of one short side.
  • Cut blocks of red scratch paper slightly larger than the Overlay words you want to highlight. (I chose the “o” in Boy, plus “toys” and “dirt”.) Ink the edges of the red paper with black and use a white pen for “stitching” penwork. Lift the Overlay™ on the unsecured side and adhere the blocks of color under the words and letters you want to highlight. Use the inside of one of the small frames to highlight the word “lad”.
  • Attach the loose end of the Overlay™ to the white paper with blue brads. Attach the “boy” overlay title border vertically along the left side of the page, overlapping the printed ribbon.
  • Tie ribbons to the right side of a large frame. Place the frame over the vinyl tag and trim excess. Punch a new hole in the top right corner of the vinyl tag for the chain.
  • Attach the “fun” fabric sticker to white paper, frame with the medium printed frame and trim excess paper. Loop a small piece of striped ribbon and secure to the back of the frame.
  • Attach the denim pocket to the layout over the printed ribbon. Place the “#1 Kid” fabric sticker on the pocket and then attach the two frames with foam tape, making them look as though they’re spilling out of the pocket.
  • Computer journal on white paper, then frame with a small frame and attach to the left side of the pocket as shown.
