Using The Buckle Up Treasure

Using The Buckle Up Treasure A page border. A card accent. An altered book decoration. For the paper crafts you enjoy, the Buckle Up! Treasures is a great embellishment. The grosgrain ribbon, gold eyelets and buckle combined are perfect for a 3-D touch. Here’s a step-by-step guide to assembling and using this treasure.

For a One-Piece Belt

Step One.

Make three holes in the ribbon with scissors: Press the tip of the scissors into the ribbon 4" from the top edge for the first hole, then repeat for two more holes 1" apart below the first.

Or, make three holes in the ribbon with a hole punch. Punch the first hole in the ribbon 4" from the top edge, then repeat for two more holes 1" apart below the first.

Step Two.

Thread the ribbon through the buckle bottom: Place the buckle face up on your work surface with the hinge pin at the top. Insert the ribbon between the two bottom rungs on the buckle, up through the second open space until you can slip the hinge pin into the top eyelet hole.

Step Three.

Thread the ribbon through the buckle top: Continue inserting the ribbon between the top two rungs on the buckle so the ribbon extends behind the top rung, then pull flat.

For a Two-Piece Belt

Step One.

Form the bottom: Place the buckle face down on your work surface with the hinge pin at the top. Wrap 1/2" of a 7" length of ribbon around the bottom rung of the buckle.

Step Two.

Make a hole: Press the tip of your scissors into the ribbon 1/4" below the fold to make a hole through both ribbon layers. Or, use a hole punch to make the hole.

Step Three.

Attach an eyelet: Attach an eyelet to the hole to secure the ribbon to the buckle.

Step Four.

Form the belt top: Cut a 7" length of ribbon. Make three holes, spaced 1" apart. Attach an eyelet to each hole. Cut the ribbon end to an inverted “V”.

Step Five:

Threading: Thread the ribbon through the buckle until you can slip the hinge pin into the first eyelet hole.

Add the Belt to a Project

To place the belt on a 12"x12" page, trim the ribbon to 13", then wrap 1/2" on each side of the page to the back and tape in place. For a card or other project, use the same technique, trim the belt according to how you want it to lay on your project, then secure the ends behind.
