Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!
By Susan Cobb

Susan's Designer Tip: I attached the birthday cake Brad Buddy with the bottom star brads only, to the lower portion of the pocket front, then tucked the flap beneath the top of the cake so it works as a closure.

Instructions:

  1. Cover the top flap with the blue swirls paper, with 5/8" overlapping the back edge of the flap. Trim the edges evenly with the flap. Add the narrow yellow border sticker across the flap, 1" from the top, trimming the sides evenly. Glue sheer green ribbon along the bottom edge of the border sticker, then glue green mini rick-rack over the seam of the two. Computer print or write "Happy Birthday" on the striped oval punch-out and attach centered over the border with foam tape. Glue dot a bow as shown.
  2. Cover the bottom front with striped paper with the stripes horizontal. Place the cake Brad Buddy centered over the striped paper, 1/4" from the bottom. Mark the bottom 3 holes with a pencil, then use your knife to make holes through the paper and surface. Flatten the prongs of the top 2 stars in the cake, then attach the cake over the striped paper with the bottom 3 star brads through the holes. Make sure you can easily tuck in the upper flap beneath the top portion of the cake.
  3. For the inside: Cover the inside of the large flap with blue paper. Cover the inside of the bottom pocket with yellow paper, covering the brads from the cake Buddy. Cover the front of the curved pocket front with striped paper, trimming edges evenly. Glue sides together to form the pocket. Write or computer print "for you" on a blue tag punch-out, mat on green, then glue angled over front of pocket. Glue a small yellow flower punch-out over the end as shown. Add a gift card to the pocket if desired.
  4. Cover the side flaps with blue swirls paper. Glue a red bracket punch-out to the left side flap. Mat the large striped flower punch-out on green and attach the left side only to the left side flap so it is centered, overlapping both side flaps. Cover the inside of the side flaps with yellow paper. Cover the inside center square with striped paper. Mat the "Let your spirit soar" tag sticker on green, leaving a 1/16" border. Glue centered to a blue rectangle, then mat again on green. Glue centered to the striped paper. Glue a small red flower punch-out to the top of the tag sticker.
