Our History

You love making stuff, and so do we! Our goal at Hot Off The Press is to create wonderful supplies. But we dont just create papercrafting supplieswere crafters ourselves!

Heres how we got started:

Craft Book Publishing History
In 1980, Hot Off The Press President and owner Paulette Jarvey established a small business built on a foundation of family, friends and the success of one self-published book. Since then, Hot Off The Press has evolved into an award-winning publisher with hundreds of products.

It all began on the proverbial kitchen table. Paulette was raising a family while teaching classes on dough art at a community college. When her students urged her to write a how-to book, she was inspiredand Hot Off The Press was born!

Paulette recruited her family and friends to help with the creation of You Can Dough It! The first press run sold out in just 60 days and motivated her to publish another book. She discovered a consumer demand for quality how-to craft booksHot Off The Press responded to the demand and carved its niche in this unrecognized market.

The company established itself as a leader in the craft market and became the only company to win 31 industry Awards of Excellence for superior quality and design.

Scrapbooking History
In 1995, Paulette sensed scrapbooking would soon become a huge part of the creative marketpublishing Snip Your Snapshots proved her right. In response to consumer demand for scrapbook product, Hot Off The Press developed Paper Pizazz acid-free, lignin-free patterned papers. The companys history of publishing books led them to develop books of papersproviding the consumer with coordinating designs plus instructions.

Now, Hot Off The Press supplies scrappers with hundreds of papers, plus embellishments. The company has extended its offerings to include specialty papers for tea bag folding, as well as vellum and metallic papers. They also hold the Disney license for scrapbook papers.

Cardmaking History
In 2001, Hot Off The Press addressed an untapped market of cardmaking paper crafters. They introduced Paper Flair, a line of cardmaking products that includes kits, paper packs, templates and other tools to make it easy for the crafter to create handmade cards. They coined the term paper engineering to describe the windows, flaps, buckles, tri-fold cards and other paper-crafting techniques created by Hot Off The Press designers. Since then, Hot Off The Press has added to the cardmaking focus with paper packs, embellishments and instruction books in the Paper Flair and Cardmakers lines.

Company Mission
Hot Off The Press mission has always been to provide customers with innovative ideas and the tools to create them with. Our goal is to design books and products that make the crafter successful, says Paulette. We want to foster confidence and self-esteem in crafters of all ages and any skill level.

Hot Off The Press books and products are distributed throughout the United States and internationally. The company sells to many levels within the market: directly to consumers through Paper Wishes catalog, to independent retailers, distributors, chain stores, television shopping channels, craft catalogs and craft book clubs.

Meet Paulette

Paulette Jarvey, owner and President of Hot Off The Press, believes EVERYONE is creative.

In fact, this belief inspired Paulette to establish her company, Hot Off The Press. I wanted to produce books and products to make crafters successful, she says. My mission wasand still isto foster confidence and self-esteem in crafters of all ages and any skill level.

The company began on Paulettes kitchen table in 1980 with the help of friends and family. She was raising a family while teaching classes on dough art at a community college. When students urged her to write a how-to book, she was inspiredand Hot Off The Press was born.

In 1995, the company published Snip Your Snapshots, the first book to showcase ideas for creating scrapbook
pages. It became an immediate best-seller. To support this incredible interest in scrapbooking, Hot Off The Press created Paper Pizazz patterned papers. Today, Hot Off The Press has a huge variety of Paper Pizazz books, cardmaking supplies, all kinds of brads and even stamps. Still the emphasis is on quality products that help the crafter succeed: Hot Off The Press has been honored with 31 PRIMEDIA Awards of Excellence and voted Best Patterned Papers by Creating Keepsakes readers two years running.

Paulette has taught scrapbooking classes and seminars across the United States and Canada, as well as at craft conventions in the UK and Australia. Scrapbook classes are a wonderful way to have fun while learning a new technique, she says. Teaching is one of my favorite things about being a part of the creative industry!
