Its our gift to youthis gorgeous layout by sophisticated scrapper Shauna Berglund-Immel is enough to leave any paper-crafter breathless. Here are a few exclusive tips from Shauna on how you can recreate this beautiful page design.
About the Papers:
I chose the gray ephemera papers and the cream French papers because they are all natural, neutral colors that work well with the black and white photos and support the beach theme, Shauna explains. The beaches in Oregon arent tropical, with bright blue water, but usually grayI chose these papers to convey that.
Creating Texture:
Shauna layered torn papers on the left side of the page to mimic the shoreline. I tore three sheets of patterned paper (charcoal words, cream French and black) vertically in different widths and layered them from widest to narrowest. I grouped the silver fibers together and tied a knot in them, then ran them vertically over the top of the layers, securing them on the back of the layout with clear tape.
Embellishing the Page:
Next Shauna punched out photos of each of the girls with a square punch. She inserted them into a slide mount and glued the slide mounts closed, then added tape-style fragments to each slide mount and journaled their names with a black pen. Shauna also added ephemera to the page for additional journaling. She inked the edges of the definition and the slide mounts by running the edges along a black inkpad. This distresses them a bit, giving them a worn look, while also creating a thin mat of black, allowing them to stand out from the background, she said. The inking gives the elements character and charm. It also tones down the whiteness and brightness of those light papers, tying them in with the dark colors of the photos and papers.
Shauna put an antique brad in the top of each slide mount, then secured them to the page as shown, using foam tape for dimension. She then used the copier to shrink down another photo, adding tape-style fragments to each side of it for a border. She added a brad in the top left corner and attached it at an angle with foam tape, slightly overlapping the large photo. Shauna journaled the date and place on the page with a black pen.
