Ten
By Shauna-Berglund Immel

"Fun citrus colors make this card perfect for any boy or girl," Shauna says, "And you can use the coordinating Metalgram letters to personalize your card by spelling out the age or the initials of the lucky recipient. This card also proves that flower-shaped brads are not just for feminine projects! By adding a folded strip of ribbon under each brad, I created funky shooting star accents. Another tip? I inked the edges of the elements on this card with black to tie in with the black card quote. I also accented the quote with brightly colored decorating chalk so the quote, in turn, ties in with the color scheme throughout the rest of the card."
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Cut a 4 1/2"x6" piece of citrus stripes paper and ink the edges with black. Mat on light orange canvas paper, then trim the mat to 1/16" and ink the edges with black. Glue centered on the card front, then ink the edges of the card with black.
- Cut a three-block segment off one of the Paint Stripz and ink the edges with black. Mat the top and bottom edges on with cardstock, then trim the mat to 1/8" and ink the edges with black. Glue across the bottom portion of the card, about 5/8" up from the bottom edge. Use tacky glue to secure one Metalgram letter in each block. Tip: If the card will not be mailed or handled much, you can use Zots instead of tacky glue to adhere the Metalgrams. Use two tropical mini brads to secure two turn mounts around the Paint Strip as shown.
- Cut out the quote and ink the edges with black. Mat on light orange canvas paper, trimming the mat to 1/16", and ink the edges with black. Use decorating chalks to accent the letters and the star on the quote. Glue the matted quote at an angle above the Paint Strip. Use two tropical mini brads to secure two turn mounts around the quote as shown.
- Cut one 3 1/2" length each of lime grosgrain, yellow woven and aqua grosgrain ribbons. Fold each length in half, then use one orange flower brad to attach each of the folded ends down the top right edge of the card.
Fun

"Bright papers paired with textured ribbon and 3-D embellishments add great (and easy!) detail to the front of this card," Susan says. "Best of all, the hot pink frame and flowers are all self-adhesive so you don't have to worry about how to attach them! The frame is printed with sweet words like "fun", "laugh" and "smile", making this card perfect for any occasion. Add a quote to the frame, then send the card for a friend's birthday or just to say "hello".
Supplies:
Instructions:
- With the fold at the left, cover the front of the card with lime texture paper. Cut a 5"x5 3/4" piece of pink stripes paper with the stripes running vertically, then glue centered on the card front.
- Cover the seam between the top edge of the pink stripes paper and the lime texture paper with bar brads: Place one 1" pink bar brad flush against the fold of the card and secure in place. Add one 1 1/2" green bar brad next to the pink bar brad. Place one 1/2" green bar brad flush against the right edge of the card and secure in place. Add one 1 1/2" pink bar brad next to the green bar brad. Secure the medium-sized hot pink flower in the space left between the two 1 1/2" bar brads.
- Use the ribbon punch twice to punch a continuous border along the edge of the dark pink splotched paper. Trim the paper to a 5/8" wide strip with the punched holes running through the center. Weave a length of lime woven ribbon through the holes, then adhere across the card front, covering the seam between the bottom edge of the pink stripes paper and the lime texture paper. Tuck the ends of the woven paper strip under the lime texture paper that covers the card front. Add the largest hot pink flower near the left end of the woven paper strip.
- Cut out the quote and mat it on lime texture paper, trimming the mat to 1/16". Cut a 1" length of lime woven ribbon and fold it in half, then secure the folded end under the matted quote so the tails point upward from the top, center of the quote. Glue the quote at an angle centered on the pink stripes paper. Adhere the hot pink frame to the front of the card, centering the quote in the window of the frame. Add one 1/2" pink bar brad to the top of the quote, just under the ribbon.
