Blue Swirls Birthday Card

Susan’s Designer Tip: I used a variety of label shapes to display words associated with birthdays in a stream of consciousness, rather than forming a sentence or phrase. The labels are displayed in a column while the swirls and flowers border on the left of the paper balances them out.

You'll also need: foam tape, Zots™, brown ink pad, black pen, craft knife, glue stick, blank white card

Instructions:

1. Cut a 5"x6 1/2" rectangle from blue with swirls and flowers paper, with the border at the left side. Thread a thin strip of aqua textured paper through the holes of a brown button and attach to the center of the large flower on the background with a Zot™. Glue white lace across the bottom of the paper and trim even with the paper sides. Add pink mini brads to the centers of the small flowers (use a craft knife to poke holes for the brads).
2. Print or write words on pink dotted, aqua textured and the remaining light blue background paper. Use the template to trace labels around the words, or cut out the shapes first and write words inside the shapes. Ink the edges of the labels. Mat the aqua label on pink dots paper and trim closely.
3. Add mini brads in the ends of two labels. Place a folded piece of pink grosgrain ribbon behind the ends of the other labels and add a mini brad to one. Add the labels in a vertical column on the right side of the card with foam tape, placing the bottom label over the lace. Knot a piece of brown grosgrain ribbon and attach above the top label with a Zot™. Glue to the card front and ink the edges of the card.
4. Cover the inside of the card with the remaining flowers and swirls paper, this time with the border at the top. Ink the edges. Use pink dots paper to create a large label that says “Here's to you on your special day". Ink the edges and glue to the inside. Add a mini brad at each end and a piece of knotted grosgrain to the top right of the label.
