Types of Patterned Papers
Patterned papers are sold by the sheet, also called bulk, in a paper pack which has 12 sheets, 2 of each design and in books, which have 24-36 sheets. Books and paper packs are the best way to buy papers, because not only do you save money, but the papers coordinate perfectly so you can use multiple papers on your scrapbook page.
Choosing Patterned Papers
Here are three shortcuts top designers use when picking which paper to use:
- Match the clothing color in the photo. If the photo shows a little girl in a pink dress, pink paper is perfect!
- Match the background of the photo. For photos taken in a flower garden, floral paper is perfect.
- Match the theme of the photo. Red, white and blue flag paper for Independence Day, holly paper for Christmas photos, pumpkin paper for Halloweenyou get the picture!
Matting your photos
A mat will act as a frame for your photos, giving a visual space or rest between the colors and shapes in the photos and those in the background paper. It also gives your page a more finished look.
A mat is a must if youre using patterned paper as a background. Be sure to follow the Golden Rule of Patterned Papers and always mat your photo onto a solid paper before placing it on a patterned background sheet. If the background paper is very bright or heavily patterned, you can make your photo mat a bit wider, or double-mat or triple-mat it.
