Summer Blooms & Sunny Brights

In an attempt to squeeze the very last drop out of summer, I have been combing the walls and halls here at Paper Wishes for some of my favorite floral collections. I have several birthdays coming up, and the vivid florals will help me to create some great end-of-summer birthday cards! I also have a ton of summer fun to document, and bright patterns will definitely help to convey exactly how much fun was had! But for your inspiration, I thought I would leave it to the pros. Here I’ve found some beautiful, bright and unique cards and scrapbooking pages, created by our Design Team, all using some of Paper Wishes’ most vibrant papers!

I love the boldness of our Bountiful paper pack. This is one that my mother and I would both agree on! I have never seen red and purple look so great together. It’s a classic floral theme, but with a color palette that keeps it looking modern. Click on the project images for instructions and supplies!

Surprise!

Surprise!

Our Fresh Cut paper pack is another very bold floral that I really enjoy. The red and the teal are truly striking together, and they give your projects a bright, but still elegant look. I think this is also a great example of a paper that does double-duty. Maybe even triple. Meaning, I can see using these papers for Spring, Summer and Fall projects and I think it’s really important for papers to be versatile. If they’re not? Well, then you end up like myself, toting around an orange bag full of luau-themed paper for seven years. Yeah, that has to go.

When it comes to documenting your summer fun and activities, I don’t think you could find papers more appropriate than those in our Happy Days paper pack. These also have me dying to create a birthday-themed banner/bunting, although my crafting eyes are often far busier than my crafting hands! I’m sure you can relate.

Our Natural World

9/3 UPDATE: Click on each project image for links to instructions and a supply list!

Lately I have seen some great projects that all have something in common – they draw upon the natural world for inspiration. And what better muse for creation than Mother Nature herself – beautiful, bountiful and ever-evolving. Some sort of change is always going on in the natural world that could spark a new creative idea. So with this in mind, I’d like to share with you some projects that are naturally inspired. At the same time, you are also going to be getting a sneak peek at some of the amazing projects and products that will be featured in our upcoming Fall 2014 Paper Wishes®! I’m just going to come right out and say it – our new Nuts About Squirrels Dazzles™ are very possibly my favorite Dazzles™ ever! This brand-new 4″x9″ Dazzles™ sheet has 30 adorable, brown animal stickers that feature squirrel focals along with everything else a squirrel would need to feel right at home – acorns, leaves, mushrooms, snails and love (hearts)! The project below is a sneak peek from our new catalog and it features Hot Off The Press’ Nuts About Squirrel Dazzles™ along with one of our brand-new paper packs, Honeysuckle, which I also LOVE.

This next card also makes fantastic use of the modern and vivid Honeysuckle paper pack, along with Honeysuckle Scrapbooking Dazzles™ that feature all sorts of great bee and flower images!

This next natural-themed project has a more traditional, botanical feel. This card uses Hot Off The Press’ brand-new Unforgettable paper pack and… CHECK OUT THE CARD. This card was created with Hot Off The Press’ newest card making template, the Pop-Up Slider Card template. Yes, you might put a little more heart and soul into making these cards, but seriously… you can make your card in any color. And there are five more brand-new templates that will be also available. Sold!

PW_14FALL-DScd1c.pg38   Now, remember what I mentioned last week? That there will be NEW Dee’s Distinctively cutting dies that allow you to create shapeable die-cuts? Well, here is a glimpse at a card that was created using some of these new dies and the Paper Blossom Paper Tool Kit.

And I just can’t help but show you one more project preview from the Fall 2014 Paper Wishes®. This card uses Brown Twigs and Leaves Dazzles™ which are not new, but check out the embellishments which are. These incredible flowers and butterflies are made of kraft-toned paper that also features polka dots, script and sheet music patterns.

Obviously there are plenty of new projects and products in our upcoming catalog. These will all be available to everyone at Paper Wishes starting August 30th (unless you are a VIP – then you will get to see everything a whole day sooner!) Once the catalog has been released, I will update this blog with links to the instructions and supplies for all these projects! In my quest to find you naturally-inspired projects, I also took a look through our Customer Gallery, and I found a couple projects that I felt inclined to show you! These projects were submitted by birdsong67 (who likely has no idea that I am showing off her gorgeous pages) but hopefully she is a blog reader who will be excited to have a spotlight cast on her lovely projects. We tend to create a lot of cards around here, so I wanted to include a couple nature-themed scrapbook pages as well:

I absolutely LOVE all the elements that are going on in each of these pages. Her “Deer Family” page is just packed with eye-catching, natural details and her “Waiting” page is a fabulous example of tone-on-tone done right! Way to go birdsong67 – we’d love to see even more! And for anyone who doesn’t know, our Customer Gallery is a place for Paper Wishes’ customers to upload their pictures and show off their creativity to our Paper Wishes community. And who knows? Maybe your projects will receive the spotlight in a future blog entry!   I also hope you were able to watch this week’s webisode on Diamond Sheets! These rhinestone stickers by Buckle Boutique are available in lots and lots of colors (there’s even a rainbow sheet!) and they add a really impressive level of bling to any of your craft projects! I think the best feature of these, besides their incredible sparkle, is the fact that you can cut right through the stickers, allowing you to create sparkly sections in any shape! Paulette and Gail show us how you can even custom-color the clear Diamond Sheets with your Spectrum Noir™ pens! In our next webisode, we will be showing you some Holographic Sheets. These sheets have great color and texture, and definitely kick up the level of visual interest in your projects. And of course, our talented Design Team has found all sorts of unconventional ways to utilize the holographic material, so be sure to join us this coming Tuesday for some brilliant new ideas! Please have a wonderful weekend, and I hope you all get the opportunity to borrow a little bit of inspiration from Nature! Michelle

Late Summer Inspiration

In mid-August, Paper Wishes’ hometown of Canby, OR hosts our local county fair. As the town fills with fairgoers, livestock trailers, and the smell of carnival food, we are reminded how dearly summer clings to its remaining weeks. The busyness of early summer has started to wind down, and if we are lucky enough we may be able to wrangle our children, grandchildren and other loved ones into joining us at one of our few remaining true American pastimes – the fair. So… in honor of this last-minute salute to summer, I wanted to share with you several projects that conjure the nostalgia of fairtime. These projects were created utilizing two of our very sweetest double-sided paper packs: Picnic and Home Grown. First, I will show you two cards and a scrapbook page from our Design Team, all using our Picnic Paper Pack (click on the images for supplies and instructions):

I absolutely love the Picnic Paper Pack. The cheery colors and dainty patterns are so inviting that it almost feels like I am sitting in my great-grandmother’s kitchen (or consuming spoonfuls of award-winning strawberry jam – it’s wherever your fantasy takes you)! Next, here are two cards and a scrapbook page from our Design Team, this time using Hot Off The Press’ Home Grown Paper Pack (click on the images for supplies and instructions):

Wow – check out those layers on Susan’s Smile Card! Looks like it took a little time, but it’s a jaw-dropper! Another thing I love about these two paper packs is that they both transition easily from summer to fall, making them a really versatile addition to your paper collection.

In this week’s webisode, Paulette and Gail highlighted a few new fabulous tools, and I think we were all excited to learn that yes – Spectrum Noir™ pens do fit in the Perfect Airbrush color spritzer! You can use the Perfect Airbrush with all your favorite markers, and it’s so much simpler than airbrushing, especially if you are like me and love fast results! They also showed us a square cage cutting die from Inky Antics, and the Paper Blossoms Paper Tool Kit which allows you give your die-cuts shape and dimension  – very cool! I love the idea of three dimensional paper in general, and I heard from a little birdie that our upcoming Fall 2014 Paper Wishes® catalog will have some brand new cutting dies from Dee’s Distinctively that are specifically designed to take on fabulous shape with your paper shaping tools. It was a fun webisode, so be sure and watch it if you haven’t already!

Thank you for visiting our Paper Wishes Blog!

Have a great weekend, and I hope you all have the chance to create something wonderful!
