Screen Shot 2016-05-09 at 3.03.37 PM

Hello friends!

Our National Scrapbooking Day Challenge has ended, and we’ve gone over all the entries received here on the blog and on Facebook! There were quite a few entries even though our contest coincided with Mother’s Day weekend, but in the end, there can only be one winner.

The designer of the winning scrapbook page is… Linda Holt!!! 😀

Congratulations to Linda, and here’s a look at her page:

Designed by Linda Holt

You’re the winner of a $50 gift certificate to Paper Wishes so hopefully you can put that toward something on your wish list. Watch your inbox for an email from us! 😀

Also a huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our NSD Sketch Challenge! It’s always amazing to see both the creativity, and the real moments captured in your scrapbook pages, and it’s an honor that you share them with us! Keep on creating, and we’ll be right here to inspire!

Spring 2016: Card Kits, Planners, Watercolors & Spring Cleaning!

Here at Paper Wishes, spring has officially sprung! Just as we’re seeing signs of new life outside, we have lots of fresh new items that debuted in the Early Spring 2016 Paper Wishes® Special Edition catalog (all available now at PaperWishes.com)! This catalog has a lot to get excited about, so here’s a peek at a few of my favorites (love my job)! 🙂

Rose Garden Foiled Die-Cut Topper Kit

First I want to share something that’s both new and spectacularly gorgeous—the Rose Garden Foiled Topper Kit! Gail demo-ed this kit during her appearance on HSN and it completely sold out. If you didn’t get yours, here’s your chance! Supplies are limited.

A luxurious, foiled card topper kit in vivid fuchsia, lime and teal florals.

  • 160 stunning, gold-foiled die-cuts
  • 16  patterned papers (8.5″x11″)
  • 24 blank white cards (5″x6.5″) and 24 envelopes
  • idea sheet

Here are a couple of project ideas, although clearly you’ll have TONS of beautiful options to play with!

Some of the toppers are so large that they make a perfect shaped card! Designed by Debbie Samples.

You can layer the toppers, and yes—that beautiful, lacy paper is part of the set! Designed by Gail Booth.

Carpe Diem Planner Collection

Another favorite (especially among Paper Wishes employees) is the Carpe Diem Planner Collection from Simple Stories! Apparently, we all needed to get organized—but doing so also had to be fun and creative. The planner already comes with everything you need. Then, just choose coordinating Carpe Diem planner extras to customize it—take a look!

Carpe Diem Planner in Platinum

Carpe Diem Planner in Coral

Carpe Diem Planner in Black

Planner comes with foiled acetate insert; 12 monthly calendar pages; 12 monthly tabbed dividers; 72 weekly inserts; 7 decorative inserts; one A5 notepad tablet

Here are all the fun extras—with even more coming in April 2016!

Carpe Diem Magnetic Bookmarks

Carpe Diem Bits ‘N Pieces Die-Cuts

Carpe Diem Sticky Note Bookmark

Carpe Diem Pocket Inserts

Carpe Diem Calendar Stickers

And one of our graphic designers, Kristen, had a fabulous idea—use the weekly pages as a journal! You can still plan ahead on the monthly calendar AND have a place to jot down those precious daily moments that we forget all too easily! Genius!

Stackable Caddy Organizer (Deflecto)

Embracing some much-needed organization, I also picked up one of these!

caddyMoms and grandmas, do you see this!? This caddy features three compartments with snapping lids to keep little fingers out! You can even turn the containers so the lid latches on the inside (close to the handle) keeping your “helpers” away from anything sharp, sticky or permanent. The lids are removable if this isn’t a concern for you, but you probably have a good sense of where I’m coming from… 😉 Another cool feature? You can stack multiple caddies and lock them together. This is a storage solution that I LOVE and it’s perfect to hold all your “basics.”

NEW Watercolor Basics

Another fun trend we are seeing lots of is watercolor. Personally, I love to paint. A simple watercolor background is an easy way to give your cards, pages and projects an extra layer of mixed-media-loveliness, so I’m very excited that PaperWishes.com now carries everything you’ll need to get started!

Tri-fold Watercolor Tin

No. 1 Watercolor Brush

9″x12″ Watercolor Pad

Watercolor Coloring Book

Here’s one of the pages from this incredible watercolor coloring book. I haven’t tried this book out yet, but it’s definitely on my wish list (along with this one).

So there you have just a few of my Spring Special Edition favorites! Post any comments or questions you might have below, and I’d love to hear—what were some of your favorites?

See you soon!

Behind-the-Scenes: Paper Wishes’ Annual Easter Egg Hunt!

It’s official—spring has sprung! Thursday was our annual employee Easter Egg Hunt, and surprisingly we had clear skies (not typical for an Oregon Easter)!

Our tulips came up just in time for some Easter fun!

Paulette and others waiting for the hunt to start!

Steampunk Collection + Masculine Card Ideas!!!

Sometimes “pretty” comes easy, while “manly” remains a little more elusive. How do you make a pretty (or rather, manly) card for a man? Paper Wishes designers to the rescue! Below are some of my favorite masculine looks our incredible design team created using Hot Off The Press’ new Steampunk Collection!

Susan created the card below using Steampunk Foiled Fancies™ which are gold-foiled, deeply embossed die-cuts just waiting for your creative touch! Ink them, sand them, or add paint, markers and more for incredible effects. Susan colored her Foiled Fancies™ hot air balloon, gears and butterfly with Spectrum Noir™ markers. She then stamped black designs from the Fancy Patterns stamp set using Black StazOn® ink. Click on the project for details.

Here’s a gorgeous card from Teresa who has embellished a Steampunk Foil Paper Tole “winged clock” with tiny, self-adhesive copper “nailheads.” She’s also used the Steampunk stamp set and Gold StazOn® ink for her card greeting! I just love this look, especially with that brown twill ribbon!

On this version, Gail customized her Foiled Fancies™ by inking them with black StazOn®, and applying rubbing alcohol over the top for a pewter look. She then combined her Foiled Fancies™ with Steampunk Scrapbooking Dazzles™. She backed her Dazzles™ heart and gears with Mocha Suede specialty paper, then layered her pieces together with foam tape. Wonderful dimension!!

Steampunk is the perfect collection for creating masculine cards, with deep brown and golden tones, teal accents and “manly” motifs like gears, top hats and more. You’ll be able to make the perfect birthday card for your husband, son, father, brother or any other special guy!

I hope you have a love-filled Valentine’s Day! <3

Brighten Up With Our “Colorist” Collection!

The February sun is shining down on Hot Off The Press today, and I could’ve swore I felt the tiniest twitch of spring fever. Not full-blown-can’t-focus-must-clean-my-house spring fever. Just a pinch. Enough to remind me that, eventually, winter will give way to springtime.

To shake off some of the winter grays, I’m sharing our new Colorist Collection with you! The 12″x12″ paper pack features black and white outline artwork on one side, with vibrantly colored, dotted patterns on the other! These are some of the most versatile papers for papercrafters EVER! The black and white motif, contrasted against the bold colors and simple polka dots allows these papers to really travel through the seasons.

Below, Gail’s adorable easel card was covered with Colorist papers, and her framed robin focal (cut from the Feathered Friends Colorist book) was colored in with Spectrum Noirâ„¢ markers. I love how she used a ribbon bow to prop up her card front! And the floral background paper inside is so striking when left black and white! Click on the card for Gail’s supplies and instructions.

Click for instructions!

Susan’s card below features Colorist Scrapbooking Dazzlesâ„¢ stickers, and I love the look of this card! For her greeting, she simply placed the Dazzlesâ„¢ “Celebrate…” sticker onto matted Colorist papers. The flowers were made by placing Dazzlesâ„¢ flower stickers onto Double-Sided Adhesive. She covered the adhesive with Crystal Micro Glitter, and backed the flowers with Colorist papers for beautiful sparkle and shine! Click her card for more details.

Here’s a scrapbook page that LeNae created using Colorist papers, Colorist Scrapbooking Dazzlesâ„¢ and Colorist ribbon. You can color these papers any way you like. Use markers, colored pencils, chalk, ink, anything… and make it your own! 🙂

Designed by LeNae Gerig

This last card easily makes my “Top 10” list—take a look! LeNae has covered a Center Step card with Colorist papers that she colored in with ArtGrip Watercolor Pencils. The focal is Florals for Colorists Paper Tole which is a quick and easy way to get a gorgeous, playful look like this! You can click on the card for supplies and instructions.

5 Sweet Valentine’s Day Card Ideas!

Valentine’s Day is coming up so I wanted to share some great Valentine ideas using Hot Off The Press’ Love + 5 Hearts cutting die set! It’s a versatile cutting die collection with a variety of heart sizes and designs, and “Love” in a gorgeous script font. I’m highlighting my favorite parts of each card, but click on any card for full instructions and supplies used. 🙂

Below, Amy’s card uses the absolutely adorable Penelope Scrapbooking Papers (and quite honestly, I’m sitting here wondering why I haven’t got a set of them yet—ha)! I love that she die cut a white heart doily frame, and then places it over a white die cut mat. The effect is very sweet, and I love the dimension it adds! The studded border was created with Flamingo Liquid Pearlsâ„¢ but you could also use Sticklesâ„¢ glitter glue or new Nuvo Crystal Drops. So pretty! Click on the card for Amy’s instructions.

Studded Heart Card designed by Amy Hurley-Purdie

This next card features a match made in heaven! Gail used Hot Off The Press’ new Heart Window Flap Die-Cut Cards which are perfectly sized for Love + 5 Hearts cutting dies! The swirly heart focal was die cut from gorgeous Pearl Adhesive Sheets and combined with vibrant Honeysuckle papers to create this stunner. Click on the card to see Gail’s directions.

Heart Flap Card designed by Gail Booth

If you enjoy stenciling, check out LeNae’s card below, created using the All Over Swirls Stencil from Hot Off The Press. I love the simplicity, plus it’s easy to make this card quickly and in any color! LeNae used a heart die-cut to mask the heart shape in the center—then she inked over it using a stylus for the soft, blended look you see. This is a great card for a guy! Click on the card for LeNae’s instructions.

Stenciled Heart Card designed by LeNae Gerig

Susan made this awesome shaker card, below, using Emma’s Garden papers along with the Love + 5 Hearts cutting dies. Unfortunately, some of the heart embellishments are no longer available, but Susan shares her great instructions on creating a lovely shaker card, and it’s a simple matter to substitute other papers or embellishments—just click on the card!

Heart Shaker Card designed by Susan Cobb

Finally, one more card from Amy with a different look. She made this card with Simply Susan Double-Sided Papers and I love the colors, and well as the chevron. This is another card idea that’s perfect for guys! She used the Heart to Heart stamp set which is yet another great find for Valentine’s crafting as it has tons of sentiments all about love! Click on the card for Amy’s directions.

Chevron & Hearts Card designed by Amy Hurley-Purdie

Love + 5 Hearts cutting dies have been around for a couple years now, so chances are you might already have them! If not, you might want to add them to your wish list as hearts get used so often! I hope this post inspires you to start creating some Valentine’s Day love!

NEW Feathered Friends & Zen Dragonflies Colorist Books!

Today I wanted to show you the two latest Colorist books from Hot Off The Press! These cute little coloring books feature gorgeous designs, each printed on its own cardstock page and sized perfectly for a card. Yes, we know coloring is therapeutic, but let’s put our coloring to work for us and use it to create a special focal, whether for a card, page or even a gift bag!

Last week Paulette and Gail were at the CHA MEGA Show in Southern California, and alas—it was discovered we needed samples for the new books. So Gail and our awesome buyer, Kayla, found themselves in the hotel room coloring. You’ll get to see Kayla’s card on an upcoming webisode!

Our two new books are Zen Dragonflies for Colorists and Feathered Friends for Colorists, and the images are some of my favorites so far!

Here’s a sample from Zen Dragonflies that LeNae colored with Spectrum Noirâ„¢ pens, and accented with Sticklesâ„¢ glitter glue! This piece would look amazing on a card. Just stamp a greeting onto one of the labels or tags that come with the book, add a bow if you like, and you’re done!

Here’s another design from Zen Dragonflies. Debbie colored her page with Spectrum Noirâ„¢ Blendable Pencils, matted it on Purple Circles Holographic paper and glued it to a gift bag—so clever! I zoomed in so you’ll be able to see the design, as well as the little gift tag hanging from the handle. Each Colorist book includes 2 sheets of matching labels and tags to use however you like (our graphic designers think of everything)!

Feathered Friends is our other must-have Colorist book! Gail did an incredible job coloring this sample, and she used something that most of us already have—ink pads! She used Art Daubers to color the frame (you “wear” the daubers on your fingers—cool!) Then she tapped the inks onto a craft sheet or acrylic block, and actually used a paintbrush to “paint” her owl. Great ideas, Gail!

And now for the coup-de-grace, Gail’s stunning Owl Center Step Card! The simplicity of the card highlights the awesome job she did coloring her owl. She used Spectrum Noirâ„¢ pens to color her owl, and if you haven’t tried these markers yet, put them on your wish list!! There are TONS of colors available, and they are grouped into color families for seamless blending. Love them!

I hope these projects will inspire you to take your coloring out of the book, and onto a card! Make your coloring count! 😀

Have a wonderfully creative day!
