What’s Your Paper Wish? Week 2 Winner Announced!!!

FB_Banner-01

It’s Tuesday again, and today we’re announcing the Week 2 Winner of our What’s Your Paper Wish? Facebook video giveaway!

Before revealing this week’s winner, I just want to tell you how fun it’s been to see your videos! It feels like I’m getting to meet some of our Paper Wishers, and seeing the enthusiasm and excitement, not just over the giveaway, but about papercrafting is really awesome! This creative passion is the common thread that runs through all of us, and it’s been really wonderful to watch your videos from all over the US and Canada! I’m hoping to meet even more of you during our final week, and I’d love to hear from our Paper Wishers in the UK, Australia and elsewhere!

To see our Week 2 Winner, watch the video below:

Congratulations!

Karen Phillips, you’re our winner!

Your Paper Wish for the Gelatos® Tropical Mixed Media Set & Pastel Chalk Set will be granted!

Visit our Facebook page for Karen’s video and details on how to enter!

Karen, we loved your video and all the projects you shared, and your deep appreciation for the Scor-Pal (it’s a favorite around here!) I’d also like to mention that Karen and I are not related. It seems we share the same maiden name—totally coincidental! There’s still one week left in our What’s Your Paper Wish? Facebook video giveaway, so visit us on Facebook and upload your video! It’s easy and you could have your Paper Wish granted! Plus, all who enter will win a prize!

I apologize for keeping this brief—we have less than 3 weeks until the January 2016 Paper Wishes® catalog comes out! So time for me to get back to work. I hope you’re all enjoying a wonderful holiday season! :-)

What’s Your Paper Wish? Week 1 Winner Announced!

FB_Banner-01

Oh. my. gosh. I just logged into the Paper Wishes Blog for the first time in over two weeks and it feels GREAT!

As many of you might be (painfully) aware, we’ve been experiencing some web troubles resulting from a system upgrade. This has caused big problems for people with logging in and ordering, and we are deeply sorry for the inconvenience. It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks, but our web team has been hard at work and things are close to being back to normal—phew!

Our system issues also had me locked out of the blog, which has been driving me a bit crazy. But finally yesterday, our web guys repaired the blog and I’m back in business—woohoo! And it’s just in the nick of time because I have a winner to announce!

Today we’re announcing our first week’s winner in our What’s Your Paper Wish? Facebook video giveaway! Watch the video below:

Congratulations!

Ruth Mickelson, you’re our winner!

Your Paper Wish for a $50 Paper Wishes® gift certificate will be granted!

Visit our Facebook page for Ruth’s video and details on how to enter!

There are still two weeks of our giveaway left, so visit us on Facebook and upload your video! It’s easy and you could have your Paper Wish granted! Don’t forget, all who enter will win a prize! Be sure to stay tuned… Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be bringing you an inside look at Hot Off The Press’ newest papercraft collections (coming January 2nd!) and some great new project ideas! I hope you’re enjoying your holiday season, and thank you all again for the patience you’ve shown over the last two weeks!

It’s great to be back!

Stamping How To: Paper-Pieced Lacy Things Card

This gorgeous card was designed by Susan Cobb, our lead in-house designer. In her instructions, she shows you how to create a flawless, paper-pieced stamped focal using Hot Off The Press’ Lacy Things stamp set. Stamping on patterned paper provides an extra rich look, and the butterfly also has dimension provided by foam tape placed between the layers. I love that she chose black ink too—what a striking contrast! Who says lace has to be white?! 😀

Just a little inspiration for World Card Making Day which is tomorrow, October 3rd! Click on the link to learn more about how you can win a Paper Wishes® gift certificate just by making a card!

042015project1

Susan’s Tip: Stamp the butterfly image on 3 different patterned papers, then cut out different portions of the butterfly from each paper. Foam tape the pieces together for a beautiful paper pieced effect.

Supplies:

Instructions:

Front: Place your blank card with the fold on the left. Ink the outer 1/4″ of the card with black ink all the way around the card front. Cut 4 7/8”x6 3/8” Roses & Lace green border paper with the roses corner at the top left corner. Glue it centered. Stamp the lace border on Roses & Lace dark pink textured paper with black ink. Trim around the edges and foam tape it across the card, even with the bottom. Stamp the small swirl/lace image on the upper right corner of the card.

Stamp “WISHING YOU A Beautiful DAY” on Roses & Lace light green textured paper. Place the Design Tool Kit #7 Beveled Label centered over the words and trace the shape with a pencil. Remove the template and cut out the shape. Ink the edges and mat on dark pink textured paper with 1/16” borders. Glue on the card, 1/8” from the right side and 1 1/4″ from the bottom.

Stamp the large butterfly image twice on Roses & Lace pink textured paper, and once each on Roses & Lace dark pink and light green textured papers. Trim around one pink butterfly (cut off the antennae), even with the edges of the image. Cut out the center portion of the light green butterfly including the body. Foam tape it centered on the pink butterfly. Trim around the center of the dark pink butterfly with body and foam tape on the light green area as shown. Finally, trim around the center of the second pink butterfly (with body) and foam tape in place. Position the butterfly angled on the upper left side of the card, overlapping the words label as shown, to check for spacing. Use the pencil to mark the paper just above the head of the butterfly. Clean your large butterfly stamp. Cover the image, except for the antennae, with cellophane tape or sticky notes. Ink the stamp, quickly remove the tape or sticky notes, then stamp the antennae with the base on the pencil mark. Glue the paper-pieced butterfly on the card, aligned with the stamped antennae. Repeat the stamping and paper piecing process for the small butterfly image, using pink paper for the base, light green for the center, and dark pink for the bottom center. Position the small butterfly overlapping the upper right edge of the words label.

Use 1/8” wide green grosgrain ribbon to tie a bow. Zot™ the bow on the lower left edge of the words label. Embellish the stamped images, label, and background paper with Silver Jewel Dazzles™.

Beautiful! I hope this has you feeling as inspired as I do! Click the image below for all the details about our World Card Making Day Challenge! I wish you all a beautiful and creative weekend! :-)

EASY Resist Colorist Card From Sara Naumann!

I know many of you here in the US were not able to catch Sara’s appearance on the UK’s Create & Craft channel. I wasn’t either :-( .

But look what I found! Or rather, what found me! I bumped into Paulette yesterday, and in her hand was one of Sara’s cards shown on Create & Craft!  So we quickly had it photo-ed just so I could share it with you!

HSN_colorist-SNcd

I also got the scoop on how you can create this same look! Are you ready? Okay then, get out your favorite white crayon! That’s right.

Sara scribbled a humble white crayon over the flowers on her Colorist page to create the resist! She then dabbed some Distress Ink onto her craft sheet, spritzed it with a bit of water, and brayered it onto her page—simple as that! She matted her Colorist piece with Iris suede paper. This is a beautiful look that’s easy to replicate, and also easy to “riff on,” using different colors of inks, application methods and so on. Her Colorist sheet is from our Floral Garden for Colorists book.

And while you have your brayer out, check out Sara’s Mixed Media Made Easy Computer DVD! Sara shows how to create endless mixed media effects using tons of different mediums you probably already have—embossing pastes, Gelatos®, Perfect Pearls™, Distress inks, Spectrum Noir™ and lots more! It’s like taking a Mixed Media class with Sara at home, and it’s perfect for anyone ready to dive in and start creating! You can click on Sara’s Mixed Media Made Easy Computer DVD to learn more.

CHA + New Papers

The office is fairly quiet with many people out of town at the summer Craft and Hobby Association Trade Show (CHA) in Chicago this week or on vacation. It’s kind of exciting that we’re unveiling 84 new Paper Wishes products at the show…everything from holiday offering of new papers, Dazzles™, Papier Tole and stamps to new templates, paper packs and the Color Me™ Silver papers we showcased during the Stamp Camp Week of Webisodes last week.

Since they’re so great, I just can’t wait…I wanted to share sneak peak at some of what’s to come with one of our new product lines “Steampunk” and one of our new paper packs for holiday scrapbooking and card making, “Vintage Christmas”. Both have coordinating Scrapbooking Dazzles™ and Papier Tole, so creating something special will be oh, so easy! These product will be available at the end of August!

Putting up a trade show booth can be cumbersome, so I thought it might be interesting to see a before and after of how it happens…

HOTP Booth After

It’s lots of work, but fun to see the industry react and get excited about new things!

I also wanted to share that we have a winner for the blog sign-up giveaway!  Sharon, from Colorado, will soon be receiving her very own CraftGeek Roll It! It’s a fun tool to use to create unique borders or even draw…and last week, it was in the Paper Wishes top ten! Customer’s are really liking this one…maybe because it’s fun for all ages! Enjoy, Sharon..when you get it, let us know what you think about it by posting a comment on the blog.
