Pop-Up Box Card with Gold Shadow-Stamped Acetate!

Happy Wednesday! Here’s a gorgeous card that you might not have seen! Gail designed it for our Stamping 101 page—if you haven’t visited before, you should take a look. Stamping 101 features stamping basics, plus more advanced techniques, helpful hints, information on ink pads and of course, more projects!

Designed by Gail Booth

Designed by Gail Booth

Designer Tip: Stamping on acetate with Metallic StazOn® can be slippery, so use light pressure. I used a color printer to journal “Mom” on the back panel, but black would work fine, or you could write “Mom” with a burgundy colored marker.

Supplies:

Instructions:

1. Card base: Cut six 2½”x2½” and one 2½”x5½” Roses & Lace green lace papers. Use Gold StazOn® to stamp the lace border centered at the bottom of three square pieces and the one long piece, then mat all of the pieces on the large pink rose paper with 1/8” borders. Follow the die-cut pop-up box instructions to assemble the box with Ultra Tape, but don’t install the inner supports yet. Close the box and lay flat on your work surface. Glue the stamped matted pieces onto the bottom panels with the long piece on the back panel (the one without an upper scored flap), then the remaining pieces onto the upper flaps (these will flop downward when the box is opened).

2. Card front: Open the box with the flaps down and the long panel at the back. Cut four 2 5/8”x2 5/8” pink lace papers. Journal “Mom” in burgundy on the center right side of one piece. Stamp the lace border in gold centered at the bottom of three pieces and at the top of the “Mom” piece, placing the scalloped edge on the edge of the paper. Cut 1/16” around the scalloped edge of the stamped lace, then mat all of the pieces on burgundy lace paper with 1/16” borders. Punch holes along the straight edge of the stamped lace, 1/8” from each side, and two holes centered at each scalloped valley, as shown. Lace with 1/8” ivory grosgrain, tying a bow at the center of two pieces. Glue the stamped matted pieces onto the three folded down panels and the “Mom” piece on the back panel, with the lace on the outer edge of each panel, and the bows on the center panels, as shown.

3. Supports: Stamp the lace border in gold centered at the top of two 2¾”x1½” green lace papers. Cut 1/16” around the scalloped edge of the stamped lace, then glue the strips even with the bottom of the two inner supports. Ultra Tape the two supports in place, as shown on the pop-up box instructions, close to the top open edge of the box (the lace edges extend above the opening.

4. TECHNIQUE: Shadow Stamping on Acetate: Stamp “Thinking of You” and “Wishing You a Beautiful Day” in gold on the heat resistant acetate, then stamp the same images over the first ones again with Scarlet SurfaceZ ink, offsetting the image up and to the right a bit for a shadow effect. Let dry, then cut out the sentiments and Zot™ onto the front and back panels, as shown. Use the same technique to stamp several small flowers, butterflies, hearts and scrolls. Cut out around the edge of each stamped image.

5. Zot™ ¼” wide strips from the acetate that comes with the pop-up box onto the backs of the pieces and Zot™ the other end of the strips onto the backs of the supports, arranging the pieces as shown. Zot™ on a scroll on the back panel and two tiny butterflies on the front and back panels.

PROJECT: Heart Triple Easel Card from Teresa Welch

Today I’m sharing with you an incredible card from designer Teresa Welch (and I’m pretty certain that incredible is the only kind of card that woman makes!) It was featured on our webisode back in January – take a look!

MKT_15JAN.WOW1-TWcd4a MKT_15JAN.WOW1-TWcd4b

Supplies:

  • Emma’s Garden Double-Sided Scrapbooking Papers (link)
  • Dark brown cardstock (link)
  • Emma’s Flower Garden Dazzles™ Stickers (link)
  • Heart Triple Easel Die-Cut Cards (link)
  • 5 mm ivory pearl stickers (link)
  • 3 mm ivory pearl stickers (link)
  • Foam tape (link)
  • Adhesive (link)

Instructions:

  1. For the card: Place your large base with the fold at the top. Glue 4 3/8″x2 5/8″ Emma’s Garden tan diamonds paper centered on 4½”x2¾” dark brown cardstock. Glue to the large base along the upper fold. Place 4 3/8″ Dazzles™ border across the tan diamonds paper ¼” from the top. Cover the inside with Emma’s Garden brown diamonds paper.
  2. Place your medium base with the fold at the top and cover the inside with brown diamonds paper. Place your small base with the fold at the top and cover the inside with brown diamonds paper. Glue the bottom edge of the medium base centered along the bottom edge inside the large base. Glue the small base centered along the bottom edge inside the medium base.
  3. Place a corner flower Dazzles™ on the Emma’s Garden papers shown. Cut along the Dazzles™ edges as shown and glue to the lower right corner. Back the single flower Dazzles™ as shown and place on the lower left. Foam tape a 5/8″ Dazzles™ flower centered near the bottom edge as shown.
  4. For the large heart: Cover the large heart die-cut with dark brown cardstock. Trace the large heart pattern onto Emma’s Garden teal floral paper. Cut out and glue to the center. Back the flower Dazzles™ shown with Emma’s Garden papers and glue as shown. Place “hello friend” Dazzles™ across the center. Place the pearls on the flower centers as shown, and set aside.
  5. For the medium heart: Cover the medium heart die-cut with dark brown cardstock. Trace the medium heart pattern onto Emma’s Garden tan diamonds paper. Cut out and glue to the center. Back the Dazzles™ rose with Emma’s Garden papers and glue as shown. Place two small Dazzles™ flowers and pearls as shown, and set aside.
  6. For the small heart: Cover the small heart die-cut with dark brown cardstock. Trace the small heart pattern onto Emma’s Garden pink floral paper. Cut out and glue to the center. Back the 1¾”x7/8″ Dazzles™ flower with Emma’s Garden papers and glue at the lower right. Place Dazzles™ “thinking of you,” small flowers, and the pearls as shown.
  7. Assembly: Glue the bottom of the small heart aligned with the matching point on the front of the small card base front. Close the medium base and glue the bottom of the medium heart aligned with the front medium card base, making sure the small heart is covered when the card is closed. Repeat to glue the large heart in place, making sure it covers the other hearts. Fold each base to display the card as shown.

Honestly, I am really impressed with this card as it is so lovely, but the supply list is still so short! Sometimes, gorgeous paper and some coordinating Dazzles™ are all it takes! Teresa herself designed these adorable Triple Heart Easel Cards and now you’ll have two different ways to make them! The card above was created using the Heart Triple Easel die-cut card package below. These come in a pack of three, and are SO MUCH FUN because you dive right in and start decorating. It’s instant gratification – who doesn’t love that?!

But! Sometimes we dream of making a black card. Or a pink card. Or any color besides white! So in one week, our Summer 2015 Paper Wishes catalog will feature several new templates including Hot Off The Press’ new Heart Triple Easel Card Template, making it simple to create these magnificent cards in any color!

As I said before, this template will be available when our new catalog comes out next Friday. But do you know what I really don’t like? When somebody shows me something that I can’t buy yet. So frustrating! But don’t worry friends, I’ve got you covered!  Today I found a sneaky way for you to get this template before it’s released, and two more, below!

This bundle of items is already available on the Paper Wishes website! Mysterious circumstances perhaps, but it’s there for you to take a look! The Star Triple Easel Card Template you see above is equally amazing, and the Center Step Card Template is a best-seller that’s already available. I hope you find this cardmaking project as awesome as I do! May it inspire you to create one of your own! Have a wonderful weekend!

Project Idea: How to Create the Easiest DIY Chalkboard Ever!

Sorry for not posting last Friday! It was a super busy day here at Paper Wishes, and we’ve been working hard on lots of new project ideas that will be coming soon! But I wanted to make sure you all saw this project from Paper Wishes’ latest Spring 2015 Mini Catalog because it’s very, very cool…

chalkboard

What sets this chalkboard apart from others? You create it yourself! It’s sized to be covered with your favorite scrapbook papers and the chalkboard surface is added with this amazing new Chalkboard Marker, designed to create chalkboard surfaces on paper, wood and even terra cotta!

chalkboardmarker

You can then decorate your chalkboard surface. Obviously you could use “school” chalk, but if you’d like more impact, I would opt for these…

chalk markers neon 1 Chalk Markers Neon 2

LeNae’s Tip: These colorful, water-based chalk markers erase easily with a damp cloth – reuse the chalkboard and markers over and over!

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Paint the edges the Chalkboard frame with the black Chalkboard Marker and let dry. Apply a thin coat of Tacky Craft Glue to one side of the chalkboard frame and cover with Hopscotch green border paper (with the border along the top). After covering with paper, turn the frame over and use a craft pen knife to cut away the excess paper from the frame edges. Use the knife to poke through the paper covering the tiny hole near the bottom of the frame. Repeat for remaining sides. Use the sanding block to lightly sand the paper edges to remove any nicks and smooth the edges. Place lengths of Black Jewel Border Dazzles™ along the edges of the window opening. Place a large Red Jewel Dazzles™ on each corner.
  2. Use the Chalkboard Marker to apply black paint to one side of each square wood piece. Let dry and repeat. Let dry again and use the sanding block to lightly sand the surface of each board to remove any streaking. Cover the back of the boards with patterned paper. Apply Tacky Glue around the edges on the backside of each frame. Place the chalkboard side down and let dry.
  3. Hinges: To secure the 2 frames together at the top, turn the frames over and place the top of each end-to-end. Place the 2 tiny silver hinges overlapping each frame and secure with 8 tiny screws (included).
  4. Thread a length of Hopscotch red/white baker’s twine through the back of the frame front. Tie a loop or bow at one end of the twine on the front of the frame and thread the remaining twine through the back of the other frame. Tie a loop on the frame front with about 4” of twine between the frame to keep them in place.
  5. Use yellow dot ribbon to make a loopy bow. Use a length of red dot ribbon to make a bow and glue to the center of the yellow bow. Glue the bows the top left side of the frame front.
  6. Use the water-based chalk markers to decorate the chalkboard surfaces. You can reuse them for many occasions by wiping clean with a damp cloth.

Now, part of my due diligence requires testing these markers thoroughly, and I am happy to report that they work fantastic!! And not only on chalkboard surfaces, but also on your marketing manager’s magnet board. And her window. Sorry, Cristina!

IMG_4425

So if you are looking for an easy way to create your own chalkboard or chalkboard surfaces, I’d pick this DIY chalkboard, the Chalkboard Marker and some Neon Chalk Markers. They are a ridiculous amount of fun, and are so perfect for weddings, birthdays, menus or even for keeping your family on the same page (Ha! A girl can dream…).

Using New Inka-Gold Wax Paste With Stencils

Created by Susan Cobb

Happy Friday everyone and thanks for stopping by! Today marks the first day of spring and I am soooo ready for it! For me, spring is generally that time of year when I like to incorporate a bit of new-ness into my own life. Maybe we’re supposed to do that in January, but nope, not me. In January I’m still hibernating.

But then spring arrives, and I start feeling ready for something new. And preferably colorful. Something like these new Inka-Gold Wax Pastes!

Now, there is a little need-to-know background info I’d like to share about myself before we go on… Yes, I make cards. Yes, I can cobble together a scrapbook page. But my day job? I write, I edit, I proofread. I love to find errors. But a professional crafter I am not. So if I can be successful with this fun, colored paste, then you can too!

First off, I was quite impressed by the amount of paste you get! The jar is much bigger than I’d expected.

FullSizeRender(19)

I decided to test the product with our new Woven Lattice stencil. A normal human would probably want to use a mini squeegee or an old gift card to swipe this stuff across your stencil, but I’m a hands-on, don’t-make-me-wait sort of person. So I just used my fingers! The wax paste is a firmer paste, yet it applies over the stencil easily.

Disclaimer: As I said before – I’m not a professional at this. On my first attempt, I just went for it! I smeared a nice, big pearly glob of paste right across my stencil, and ended up with a pretty rough-looking design.

FullSizeRender(19) copy

Lesson learned. For my second try, I held my stencil in place just a bit more firmly (as my rebellious nature still wouldn’t allow me to just go get a piece of stencil tape). I also used a bit less paste than before, and the results were fantastic!

FullSizeRender(19) copy 2

One of the cool properties of this paste is that once it dries (and bonus – it’s a relatively quick-drying product!), you can use a paper towel or soft cloth to buff the surface for additional shine! Buffing seems to ever so slightly bring out the silvery pearl finish, and will also neaten any rough edges. Personally, I think it looks great either way. It just depends on the look you prefer.

closeup

I buffed just the top of the stenciled image (above) to give you an idea. I’d also advise you to buff carefully so your project doesn’t pick up the color from the paper towel you buff with.

And for our grand finale, take a look below. This is the kind of incredible card you can create using Inka-Gold Wax Paste! Just click on the image for project supply list and instructions!

Not Your Normal Cards!

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all enjoyed World Card Making Day! We had some fun contests and challenges, and the fun hasn’t ended! Right now you can still join our October Card Making Contest that takes place on the Paper Wishes Message Board and this month the challenge is to design a card that is uniquely shaped or folded! So I went in search of a little inspiration for you all! Don’t forget to click on each image for supplies and instructions!

This first card was designed by Teresa Welch, who always has a new folded card up her sleeve. This one is simple to create and uses Hot Off The Press’ new Winter Wishes Artful Card Kit (ACK). The easel portion simply gets propped up behind the adorable die-cut embellishments on the inside of the card.

Here is another card Teresa designed using the same ACK, combined with Silver Ripple holographic paper and Silver Jewel Dazzles™ stickers. The front focal flap lifts upward, and the lower circle-covered section unfolds, revealing a pocket inside the card! So cool! The pocket is perfect for a gift card or family photo!

This Oval Swing Card was created using the Oval Swing Card template and the Gingerbread ACK. The thing I love about these templates is that you can easily create an unlimited number of moveable cards IN ANY COLOR. No more plain white cards! Although as Teresa shows us below, sometimes white is still the perfect choice.

This spooky, sparkly Halloween card was designed by Debbie Samples, and features a blank Center Step Card as its base. The blank Center Step cards have been pre-cut and even pre-folded for your convenience! Just dive right in and start decorating (my favorite part)! Debbie used Hot Off The Press’ Halloween Papers along with the Twisted Tree Cling Rubber Stamp and Spoonful of Midnight Embossing Powder & Elements from Stampendous to create this haunting look!

This card is not quite as seasonal as the others, but it’s a beautiful example of a Cascading Card and why not show a little love year-round?! The front pulls out accordion-style for display, and the folding panels give you lots of options for embellishing. This card was created with Hot Off The Press’ Red Velvet Paper Pack and Sweetie Pie Dazzles™, as well as the Paper Artist Love and 5 Hearts cutting die set.

And a final example of of a very cool Double-Fold Pop-Out Card! I love this card – the Butterfly Garden ACK papers are beautiful, and I love the symmetry of the pop-out section. Lots of visual impact here!

So – are you ready to learn the real reason behind my sudden folded-card fixation? Here at Paper Wishes, we have been working hard on a brand new DVD! Teresa’s Uniquely Folded Cards DVD has been scheduled for release in January! And trust me, it is packed with tons of projects that you are going to want to create, so mark your calendars and dust off your rulers!!!

12 Days of Christmas with Paper Wishes® – Day 7

Print

Welcome to Day 7 of 12 Days of Christmas with Paper Wishes®!

Thanks for joining me today, as I find “hidden” treasures from our Paper Wishes Webisodes.  Just in case you missed last week’s posts, here’s a link to our Weekly Webisode & Gallery Archive – click here.  All the projects featured from last week all came from our Weekly Webisode over the years.   Soooo much inspiration ~ not just for the holidays.

This week is all about last minute gift giving. I love it when I receive hand-made gifts. Albums, cards, framed pictures…all types of goodies.  I’d like to share some ideas for Gift Giving this week – as we get closer and closer to Christmas!

Today’s projects come from: Patina Vintaj Jewelry
Aired: August 14, 2012

Making jewelry isn’t something that I normally like to create. However this webisode gave me some great tips & inspiration to create some pieces as a gift set.  I love the colors of the patina and the images on the metal embossing plates are wonderful!

Another option is this beautiful Reversible Butterfly necklace. One side is embossed other side is debossed. Very Cool! And if you watch the webisode, Ann goes over some pretty cool techniques.

Fall season is just around the corner…most of you should have received your copy of the 2012 Fall Paper Wishes catalog. It arrived early September with lots of Goodies! This catalog brings NEW collections from Hot off the Press. Taking a lot of the guesswork of trying to find all the goodies for your crafting projects.

Some of the collections have been featured in our Weekly Webisodes such as Fresh Cut, and COLOR ME Double Dipped! You can always find past webisodes by going to http://www.paperwishes.com/webisodes click on the Webisode & Gallery Archive and search by name.  However I’ve made things a little easier by clicking on them below.

Stamp Camp Week of Webisode – RECAP!

WOW, what a great week it was. I know I learned tons of new techniques, and so much inspiration. Thanks Paulette & Ann for all the great webisodes…I’m still trying to figure out what my favorite day was.

Day 1 – started with Teresa’s DVD  (Click here to view)

Teresa’s DVD has 130 cards, along with several techniques. Paulette & Ann just covered a few of them – such as Marbleizing technique using Smooch inks, chalk inks and spectrum noir pens, along with several embossing techniques. If you missed it, please click on the link and you’ll be in for a treat!

Day 2 – Perfect Pearls (click here to view)

WOW, WOW, WOW – I’m amazed with the projects that were created using the Perfect Pearls. So many ways to use the powders! I know when I received the sets in my office we all oooooo’d and aaaaa’d about them. But I was “forced” to hand them over to the designers to create their magic! Well they never disappoint. 6 projects were shown, however Ann did several demos from basic use to little more difficult!

Day 3 – Gelatos!

NO no no not the ice cream! But according to Ann, she loves them just the same! This day brought a little bit of a issue, as some of you might have notice – Early last week, Kayla our Inventory Control specialist let me know that there was a train derailment in California, which held up UPS, with some of our goods! With this came back ordering and some pricing issues. We are very sorry for all the confusion. Water brush will be back in stock in at the end of August and the missing Gelatos colors should be back in stock around August 13. We do apologize and if you’d like to receive an email when they are back in stock you can do so by click on the link, then entering your email address.

Day 4 – Doodle Stampers & Monoprinting Technique! (click here to view)

Ann showed us all how you use the Doodler stampers, and gave us little tips and tricks. She also showed us how to do the Monoprinting technique along with all the fabulous projects that our designers created.  This was a fun day, with the new stampers and new techniques and all the ideas that come about when viewing all the projects.

Day 5 – Frantage!

I have to be honest; I think this was my favorite day! When crafting I don’t really use a lot of embossing powers, however after this day I changed my mind. I’m amazing with these powder as well as the MICA fragments. The projects that were created were simply beautiful. I hope you tune into this day and see the projects that were created and the demos Ann did. I know it will inspire you to create magic!

Super fun, and tons of new ideas, techniques and of course inspiration. I’m always impressed with all the projects that our Designers create. Thanks Ladies for all your hard work!! – Susan, Lodell, LeNea and Ann!

I’ve posted links to each day, however if you ever miss or need to go back and review a webisode, all of our webisodes are on the site for you to go back to. If you simply go to: www.paperwishes.com/webisode   Click on the link: Webisode & Gallery Archive – it will be there waiting for you :)

When people ask you, “How did you get to be so creative”? Simply reply with a smile and say, “I ate paste as a child”.

Thanks for reading my little blog.
