Brighten Up With Our “Colorist” Collection!

The February sun is shining down on Hot Off The Press today, and I could’ve swore I felt the tiniest twitch of spring fever. Not full-blown-can’t-focus-must-clean-my-house spring fever. Just a pinch. Enough to remind me that, eventually, winter will give way to springtime.

To shake off some of the winter grays, I’m sharing our new Colorist Collection with you! The 12″x12″ paper pack features black and white outline artwork on one side, with vibrantly colored, dotted patterns on the other! These are some of the most versatile papers for papercrafters EVER! The black and white motif, contrasted against the bold colors and simple polka dots allows these papers to really travel through the seasons.

Below, Gail’s adorable easel card was covered with Colorist papers, and her framed robin focal (cut from the Feathered Friends Colorist book) was colored in with Spectrum Noir™ markers. I love how she used a ribbon bow to prop up her card front! And the floral background paper inside is so striking when left black and white! Click on the card for Gail’s supplies and instructions.

Susan’s card below features Colorist Scrapbooking Dazzles™ stickers, and I love the look of this card! For her greeting, she simply placed the Dazzles™ “Celebrate…” sticker onto matted Colorist papers. The flowers were made by placing Dazzles™ flower stickers onto Double-Sided Adhesive. She covered the adhesive with Crystal Micro Glitter, and backed the flowers with Colorist papers for beautiful sparkle and shine! Click her card for more details.

Here’s a scrapbook page that LeNae created using Colorist papers, Colorist Scrapbooking Dazzles™ and Colorist ribbon. You can color these papers any way you like. Use markers, colored pencils, chalk, ink, anything… and make it your own! :-)

This last card easily makes my “Top 10” list—take a look! LeNae has covered a Center Step card with Colorist papers that she colored in with ArtGrip Watercolor Pencils. The focal is Florals for Colorists Paper Tole which is a quick and easy way to get a gorgeous, playful look like this! You can click on the card for supplies and instructions.

NEW Feathered Friends & Zen Dragonflies Colorist Books!

Hello!

Today I wanted to show you the two latest Colorist books from Hot Off The Press! These cute little coloring books feature gorgeous designs, each printed on its own cardstock page and sized perfectly for a card. Yes, we know coloring is therapeutic, but let’s put our coloring to work for us and use it to create a special focal, whether for a card, page or even a gift bag!

Last week Paulette and Gail were at the CHA MEGA Show in Southern California, and alas—it was discovered we needed samples for the new books. So Gail and our awesome buyer, Kayla, found themselves in the hotel room coloring. You’ll get to see Kayla’s card on an upcoming webisode!

Our two new books are Zen Dragonflies for Colorists and Feathered Friends for Colorists, and the images are some of my favorites so far!

Here’s a sample from Zen Dragonflies that LeNae colored with Spectrum Noir™ pens, and accented with Stickles™ glitter glue! This piece would look amazing on a card. Just stamp a greeting onto one of the labels or tags that come with the book, add a bow if you like, and you’re done!

Here’s another design from Zen Dragonflies. Debbie colored her page with Spectrum Noir™ Blendable Pencils, matted it on Purple Circles Holographic paper and glued it to a gift bag—so clever! I zoomed in so you’ll be able to see the design, as well as the little gift tag hanging from the handle. Each Colorist book includes 2 sheets of matching labels and tags to use however you like (our graphic designers think of everything)!

Feathered Friends is our other must-have Colorist book! Gail did an incredible job coloring this sample, and she used something that most of us already have—ink pads! She used Art Daubers to color the frame (you “wear” the daubers on your fingers—cool!) Then she tapped the inks onto a craft sheet or acrylic block, and actually used a paintbrush to “paint” her owl. Great ideas, Gail!

And now for the coup-de-grace, Gail’s stunning Owl Center Step Card! The simplicity of the card highlights the awesome job she did coloring her owl. She used Spectrum Noir™ pens to color her owl, and if you haven’t tried these markers yet, put them on your wish list!! There are TONS of colors available, and they are grouped into color families for seamless blending. Love them!

I hope these projects will inspire you to take your coloring out of the book, and onto a card! Make your coloring count! 😀

Have a wonderfully creative day!

Sunshine & Raindrops Dazzles™ Stickers + Project Ideas!

Happy Tuesday, Paper Wishers!

It looks like Paulette, Gail and the others are having an amazing time at the CHA 2016 MEGA Show in Anaheim, CA. They will be back home tomorrow, and I can’t wait to see what they’ve discovered!

Today I’m going to show you my favorite new Dazzles™ stickers—Sunshine & Raindrops! They feature an adorable little girl under an umbrella, along with clouds, raindrops, sunshine and a rainbow. These super cute stickers have a trendy weather theme that works for all four seasons! I was so excited when these Dazzles™ came out that I pretty much had to take them home and make a card. Immediately. So here’s the card I made, plus a couple of really stunning cards from the true professionals—our lovely Design Team!

Merry Christmas from Paper Wishes!!!

Merry Christmas Eve!

Traditionally, Christmas is when people slow down to take some time for themselves, to rejuvenate and enjoy their families. But here at Paper Wishes, things have barely slowed. In fact, they haven’t slowed. With a new catalog coming soon, preparations to be made for the Craft & Hobby Association Mega Show in January, and some other BIG plans in the works that I probably can’t reveal yet, everyone here (and most of all, Paulette) is going 110%.

For us, sharing the love of papercrafting, and striving to continually offer new, different and wonderful products is what drives us. It’s the passion that lies at the core of what we do every day. But despite the work, here is just some of the Christmas fun that we’ve had over the past month!

We have squeezed some great times into a very busy month! I’d like to thank Paulette, and all my co-workers who have helped bring Christmas magic to Paper Wishes this year. And most importantly, I want to thank all of our Paper Wishers for the incredible creativity and kindness you’ve shown! You truly are the very best part of Paper Wishes!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Celebrating 10 Years of Webisodes: Q & A with Paulette

webisodetake2-01

It’s our birthday! To celebrate 10 amazing years of Paper Wishes Webisodes, we’ve created an extra special webisode this week, giving you a snapshot of all the wonderful ideas, techniques and laughs to come out of an incredible 710 webisodes (that’s over 500 hours!) Over the years, Paulette Jarvey has had several co-hosts, including Sara Naumann, Ann Barba, and current co-host Gail Booth. But Paulette has been there throughout, and last week I sat down with her to ask some of the questions I’ve had about our webisodes, and I thought I would share! :-)

MG: How did the idea come up to create your webisodes? What was your initial goal for webisodes?

PJ: Webisodes came out of all the classes I’ve taught in the US, Canada, England and Australia. Hot Off The Press began as a craft book publisher, so teaching and showing how to make things is in our DNA. With the possibility of the growth via the internet (remember, this was 10 years ago), we thought that doing webisodes would be a natural extension of the teaching. We’re also great believers in sharing how to use products.

MG: On average, how many people currently view your webisodes?

PJ: 7,000-11,000 watch each show—multiply that number by 5 during a Week of Webisodes! What’s amazing is how many people watch previous webisodes—even those beginning ones!

MG: What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you on camera?

PJ: Probably the time Ann nearly sprayed me with Glimmer Mist sprays.

MG: Do you have a favorite webisode?

PJ: Not a specific webisode, but I am so very proud of Gail. She was happy to do the webisodes when she was hired. She had performed in some local plays, but she has grown and become so wonderful on the shows. Not only is she creative, but she enjoys sharing her creativity and she’s a delight to work with. She makes my job easier. I’m a fortunate woman!

MG: Has anything mildly disastrous ever occurred on a webisode? How did you deal with it?

PJ: The most disastrous thing was the coughing fit that happened to me when we were shooting Paper Wishes Live! I had to quickly exit the studio and wonderful Gail stepped in—flawlessly, I might add. At the time, it seemed not mildly disastrous, but really disastrous!

MG: If you could host a webisode with anyone famous, fictitious or real, who would it be and why?

PJ: I grew up reading Nancy Drew and she was an influence on me. She always knew what to do and most of the time it was a creative solution. So that’s it, Nancy and me!

MG: You’re stranded on an island with Gail, Ann and Sara… who is building the hut, who is decorating the hut, and who is making dinner? Assuming, of course, that you’ll be busy planning future webisodes…

PJ: Gail would engineer a way out off the island, Ann would clean and decorate the hut. Sara would find something creative to do with the items on the island. Yes, I’d be dreaming up new shows and coming up with new product ideas. Time on an island might also be the perfect chance to devote time toward new product development—that’s my full-time job.

MG: What is your webisode “dream location” if you could film anywhere?

PJ: On this rainy day, the tropics sound lovely.

MG: Does Mike (Jarvey) ever watch your webisodes? Does he offer “advice?”

PJ: Now that he is retired I wonder if he will watch. He offers advice on some things, but not the webisodes. Currently, we’re working on his suggestions to better show the holographic papers and our new Foiled Fancies™ (oops, I just gave away a new product line for 2016)!

MG: Are you planning to do anything different for future webisodes?

PJ: I personally read all the comments, so I’m always looking at what people want, and what they like or don’t like. My goal is to show new products and to creatively “marry” them with other things. Like Color Burst. It’s a great, fun product and we’ll be putting it with stamps, paper tole, flowers, templates and more in an upcoming webisode. We’re always on the look out for what’s new, and we’ll bring them to the shows!

MG: What’s the most important thing you have learned after filming over 700 webisodes?

PJ: Planning has become even more important. Sometimes we have filmed a webisode only to learn the manufacturer’s product won’t be here on time, and that’s frustrating for us and the viewers. If we plan far enough in advance, we can more easily make substitutions!

webisodetake2-05

I just want to say congratulations to Paulette and her team on 10 years of webisode success! It entails a lot of work, not just from Paulette and her co-hosts, but also from our cameraman John (who has absorbed an amazing amount of crafting knowledge), and our web team, who edit and maintain all the webisodes! It’s a big job, but underlying it all is a whole lot of continuing passion and creativity! Keep it up guys!

Paper Wishes Celebrates the Marine Corps’ 240th Birthday!

Semper Fi, Marine!”

This is a greeting you’ll hear among Marines each year on November 10th, the official birthday of the Marine Corps. On this day, retired Marine Mike Jarvey brings in bottles of sparkling cider to share with Paper Wishes employees so all may share in a toast. This is one of the most touching things I encountered during my first year with Paper Wishes, perhaps in part because my own grandfather also served as a Marine. While he is no longer here, I embrace this chance to reflect on him, not just as my grandfather, but also as part of the deeply loyal brotherhood known as Marines.

Here are images from the card Mike Jarvey created to honor this special day:

Thank you to Mike, and all the Marines out there, both past and present. Through your loyalty to the Marines and your service to this country, you’ve earned our nation’s sincere gratitude at many levels—among communities, families and individuals. So if you know someone who served in the Marines, today’s the day to tell them, “Semper Fi, Marine!”

Behind the Scenes: Wintery Blossoms at Paper Wishes!

Okay, so I know it’s not actually winter yet. But I wanted to show you all the white camellia that blooms at Paper Wishes during November and December! No matter how cold it gets, this blossoming plant continues to provide some much-needed pollen for our local bees!
