Basic Card Folds

Special folds are a super way to create eye-catching cards! Even better, they’re easy to do.

Tri-panel (gate fold) cards: This is the easiest card fold. Simply place your blank card on your work surface and open it so it "reads" like a book. Mark the center of each flap. (If your card is 5"x6 1/2", the center will be 2 1/2" from each side.) Score a line vertically along each 2 1/2" mark, then fold the two outer flaps in to meet at the pre-scored line in the center of your card.

You can then line the inside of the card (to cover the pre-scored line) with paper, and decorate each front flap with paper.

S-fold and Z-fold cards: This is another easy folding technique. For an S-fold, place your blank card on your work surface and open the card so it "reads" like a book. Mark the center of the front flap. (If your card is 5"x6 1/2", the center will be at 2 1/2".) Score a line vertically along the 2 1/2" mark, then fold the flap back toward the pre-scored fold of the card. For a Z-fold card, do the same technique but score and fold on the back flap of the card, not the front.
