well.... hold the horses!!! He just strolled in after being gone for two days! Thought he walked off to die on his own. Still looks like he's at deaths door, however. Will continue to coax him to having something to eat/drink and we'll see what's what - so far he's still very uninterested.

I'm going to kill that cat for making me sob for a day and a half.

Yeah so glad he came home! Cats can do that to you. We had one that ran off after we moved and i would see him but he was not coming to me......his old stomping ground, but after a week i went out at night and called him and he came running an jumped in my arms, that cat and i had a good bond, he loved to go for car rides and walks on a leash and would ack like a dog to protect me when someone came near me, and so good natured, he was a stray. Hubby built him a cat house for outside for winter and he loved it.hated win he got sick and passed cried for days..........

He hung out for several hours.... I tried to coax him into eating, drinking and cleaned him up a bit (all of which he was totally disinterested in/did not like at all). Spent most of his time in the bathtub ?!?!..... totally ignoring me (nothing new there), then went back outdoors early last night but not before leaving a deposit in his litter box (don't know how since he's not drinking anything here). not back this morning. Just letting him do what he wants and keeping him comfy when he 'visits'.

Hugs for you and for Newton (not that he'll let you...) - so hard to watch our fur-kids at this stage.

OMG Lee, I cannot imagine the start you had when he strolled back in! I think maybe he was getting you ready, and testing the waters to see if he was ready to leave you. Maybe he heard you crying, and came back to comfort you?

Either way, it does not sound like you can afford to take him for granted (not that you ever did). Whatever time you have with him is a gift. I am sorry for the sorrow you are and will be feeling if his time with you does come to an end. You are right, our four legged friends (or 2 wings and 2 legs), hold a special place in our lives and in our hearts. Painful to even think about life without them.

Keep us posted! Should be easy since you have your own thread...
