Default Styles & Structures - Pull down Pop up card structure

"we don't recognize TIME as a dimension at the station".
scrapbooking station management

hahaha, enough said... Fun card structure to add to your tool box....

photos 1,2 and 3
Sample 1- Umbrella and Tulips (made this same card for a swap back in april)
Sample 2- Roses in Harmony....

both cards are finished 4 1/2 x 6" landscape cards and constructed the same:

photo 4 (base card structure):
11 x 6" piece of card stock. Score at 1" on both ends for your fold unders.
at 5 1/2 inches (center line), center a 3 1/2" cut (cut between 1 1/4 to 4 3/4), just needs to be close.

You many as well cut your pop-up cstk: needs to be finished size 4 1/2 x 3.

photo 5 (base card structure - cut and score the pull down):
Fold your base at the center score (you want to cut through front and back at the same time). Cut frame (3 sides, 1" from each side and 2" from the bottom of your card). Remember the bottom of your card is the end scores - not the edge of the card stock.

score outsides of frame at the end of your cut lines - 2" from bottom of your card.
On the umbrella card I covered w/ paper first, then cut the frame/pull down, rose card I cut first and used 'strips' to cover front.

photo 1: Add embellishments to card front (pieces can move over and under between the frame and the pull down areas - but cannot be attached to both). remember that anything you put on your pull down area disappears when the card is opened/displayed and anything on the frame will show.

If you want to trim your fold under edges (border punch, cutting die, freehand) - now is the time.

photo 2: open your card and fold under on the back. Attach your DECORATED pop-up panel, centering at the bottom. Embellishments need to be low profile AND stuck well onto your panel (loose ends will catch moving up and down through the slit at the top
Glue/adhere the front and back fold unders (not pictured): put glue/adhesive onto the back fold under - over and across the pop-up also. bring the top down folded. (you are gluing together the front and back fold unders).

photo 3/4 (repeats) - finishing embellies (opt) - something to the fold down panel on the inside.

Larger landscape sample..... finished size 4 1/2 x 7.
everything is done the same way.
photos 1, 2 and 3

Increase width of card base to 7" (11 x 7)
slit at center depends upon the width of your pop-up.... this sample is 4" wide (keep it 4 1/2" tall - the height of your card, btw). so, slit is 4 1/2" centered.

Photo 4 and 5
Portrait small (finished 5 1/4 x 4 1/4).
base card is 12 x 4 1/4. I narrowed my fold unders to 3/4" on either end - as well as the frame to 3/4". Pop up panel needs to be 5 1/4" tall.

Maybe you read through that, and maybe you didn't. But YOU can watch it.... bwa ha ha:

Lee - I watched your video, and have to say, I have never seen this structure before! Love it! I definitely plan to try this. I love your examples, and especially the way your Birthday Banner fits into the opening. A lot of fun. Thanks for posting and sharing... can't wait to get some actual play time... after NEXT weekend's wedding.

Okay...not ignoring this challenge. Made one and threw it out. Not sure what I did wrong but it just wasn't working properly. So, am I giving up? Not on our life! I will do this again and I will succeed. As one designer says, "It's only paper" But, I will need to watch the video again to see where I messed up.

Default 60th Birthday

This is my first one... Such a fun presentation, Lee. Thank you for showing this to us! Lee, obviously I loved your banner card, and had to add my spin.
I used a pearlescent blue card stock base.
I covered that with 2 copy weight backgrounds I had made with my Gelli Plate for a mixed media challenge. Then I used Rock On pp and Boxer DK Blue Modern Dots pp for my inside, hidden panel, and hand made banner. The sticker letters are CM, the inside stamp is SU, but the Dazzles in front are PW Fireworks holographic dazzles.
I will hand deliver, so I can explain how to open it. My Brother in Law IS the bull who tore up the china shop, so he needs instructions!
