I like both the cards, same technique but such different results. I am with Penny, not very comfortable with the tearing, but I may have to give it a try.

Default Feb Week 3 Challenge

Paper Tearing is one of my favorite techniques and I use it so often! It is SO FREEING... I have posted 4 examples from scrapbook pages I made this past weekend, to illustrate scrapbook uses. The intricate Memories Page is a title page to an album and has lots of brads and embellish that came from PW, but only card stock, and mostly scraps from other pages I made in that album. The other pages actually do not feature PW paper, but DO give you an example of using patterned paper like the GORGEOUS paper we get from PW, so if you permit me to use it as INSPIRATION only...

Then I made 4 cards using 2 separate tearing techniques: 1. Using torn paper as a mask to add color in a column and 2. Combining strips of torn paper to form a mat for the card focal.

In the first technique I tore a sheet of card stock and taped it over my card (also taped to my craft sheet to avoid shifting) to create an open, or negative space which I then colored in using Ranger Distress Inks (Squeezed Lemonade, Picked Berries, Peacock Feathers). I then stamped an image over the colored area. I used the Artful Collection for the cluster of branches, and a Fiskars set called Petals from Scratch for the Daisy; words came from Simply Susan and Birthday Greetings Stamp sets; I also used the butterfly from the Dress form Small Stamp and the Dragonfly Small Stamp. The papers I used were from the Fancy Feathers pp and the silver is from origami foil papers from PW. Bakers Twine and tag shapes all from PW.

In the second technique, the papers are from Kristen's Collection of Scrapbook Papers (online catalog), and I added some from the Sorbet ACK. I used the dragonfly small stamp and the Owl small stamp also. Ribbons, gems, brads and twine all PW also.

Thanks for looking! I had stamped images to create a dozen cards, but only got these finished...

Linda, love all your cards. I never thought of using torn paper as a mask, thanks for the tip! Nice scrapbook pages too!
