Heritage Accordion Tag Book — Susan Cobb

Supplies:

Designer Tips: This handmade tag book makes a great little weekend project. Use the Heritage 8"x8" Papers for a heritage-themed book like this one, or mix up the papers for a totally different theme! How about a baby brag book for the lucky new parents? Or what about a birthday or friendship book with photos and memories of the close friends in your life? Coordinating papers, an easy-to-use template and a few special embellishments are all you need to create this lovely book for yourself, or for your friends!

Instructions

  1. Place the green mesh with leaf border paper with the border at the bottom, then turn over the paper so the white side is on top. Place the second largest of the template’s standard tag shapes vertically in the bottom left corner of the paper and trace with a pencil. Trace a second of the same tag shape directly to the right of the first tag shape so the two tag shapes share an edge. Repeat with a third of the same tag shape to the right of the second tag. Cut out all three tags as one piece, taking care not to cut the shared edges. Turn over and fold along the shared edges to create an accordion-style fold. Ink the edges of the tags black, including the folded edges, then unfold and lay flat on a cutting surface. Use an X-acto® knife to cut around the edges of some of the leaves that run across the top of the leaf border.
  2. For the left tag: Mat a 1 1/2"x1 3/4" photo on black cardstock and trim the mat to 1/16". Mat again on green textured paper, trim the mat to 1/16" and ink the edges. Glue at an angle over the tag, tucking the bottom edge under the cut leaves, then glue the leaves overlapping the photo. Mat the “Family” word fragment on black cardstock, trim the mat to 1/16" and glue at an angle over the photo. Punch a 1/4" hole centered along the top edge of the tag. Hold together one 5" length each of ivory sheer and olive green sheer ribbon. Run the ribbons through the hole and tie into a knot around the top edge of the tag.
  3. For the center tag: Mat the Studebaker artwork on green textured paper, trim the mat to 1/16" and ink the edges. Fold a 1 1/2" length of ivory grosgrain ribbon in half and secure the loose ends behind the top of the artwork. Glue the artwork at an angle over the tag, tucking the bottom edge under the cut leaves, then glue the leaves overlapping the artwork. Add a black brad to the folded end of the ribbon. Fold another 1 1/2" length of ivory grosgrain ribbon and secure the loose ends behind the top of the tag to create a tab.
  4. For the right tag: Ink the edges of the soda fountain artwork. Glue at an angle over the tag, tucking the bottom edge under the cut leaves, then glue the leaves overlapping the artwork. Mat the “Memories” word fragment on black cardstock, trim the mat to 1/16" and glue even with the bottom edge of the tag. Hold together one 4" length each of ivory sheer and olive green sheer ribbon and knot them in the center. Use a Glue Dot™ to secure the knot centered over the top edge of the tag.
