Slide Mount Zoo Train — By: Shauna Berglund-Immel

Supplies:

Designer Tips: Shauna's creative slide mount project makes a fun and colorful border on children's scrapbook pages, and it's the perfect way to accent a special gift bag!

Instructions

  1. Separate one sheet of slide mounts into three pieces by tearing along the perforated lines (you will end up with one long slide mount with two windows and two smaller individual slide mounts).
  2. Cover one individual slide mount with plaid paper, ink the edges and trace around the window with a black pen. Place the slide mount with the large edge on the right side. Frame the lion artwork in the slide mount window. Run a length of red grosgrain ribbon along the top of the slide mount, wrapping the ends around the edges to secure on the back. Add one black mini brad to the right end of the ribbon length. Tie a length of black/white gingham ribbon into a shoestring bow and use a Glue Dot™ to attach the bow over the left end of the red ribbon length.
  3. Lay the long slide mount horizontally and cover with striped paper (stripes running vertically). Ink the edges of the slide mount and trace around the windows with a black pen. Frame the bear and panda artwork in the slide mount windows. Run a length of red grosgrain ribbon along the top of the slide mount, securing the ends on the back. Add two black mini brads to each end of the ribbon length. Glue the parrot artwork centered between the slide mount windows.
  4. Place the final individual slide mount with the large edge on the left side, then cover with stars paper (stripes running vertically). Ink the edges and trace around the window with a black pen. Frame the monkey artwork in the slide mount window. Run a length of red grosgrain ribbon along the top edge, securing the ends on the back. Add a black mini brad to the left end of the ribbon length. Tie a length of black/white gingham ribbon into a shoestring bow and use a Glue Dot™ to attach the bow over the right end of the red ribbon length.
  5. Run white embroidery floss through the holes on 6 red buttons, knotting the ends of the floss on the back of the buttons. Use Glue Dots™ to attach two buttons to the bottom of each slide mount to create wheels.
  6. Lay the slide mounts in a row with the lion slide mount on the left, the long slide mount in the center and the monkey slide mount on the right. Tie a knot in the center of two gingham ribbon lengths. Attach one end of one knotted ribbon behind the bottom right corner of the lion slide mount and the other end behind the bottom left corner of the long slide mount, connecting the slide mounts together. Attach one end of the other ribbon length behind the bottom right corner of the long slide mount and the bottom left corner of the monkey slide mount to complete the train.
