Joyce & Bob — By: Susan Cobb

Supplies:

Designer Tip: Susan chose a black and ivory color scheme to complement the large black and white photo on this layout and added silk flowers, ribbons and brads for fabulous texture and dimension!

Instructions

  1. Use the black/ivory dots with striped border paper as the background, turning the paper so the border runs along the bottom edge.
  2. Mat a horizontal 5”x7 1/2” photo on black glimmer paper, trimming the mat to 1/16”. Cut four 5/8” wide strips of black/ivory stripe paper, two with the stripes running horizontally and two with the stripes running vertically. Glue one strip with the stripes running lengthwise behind the left edge of the photo mat to create a 3/8” wide mat. Trim each end of the paper strip at a 45 degree angle, meeting at the corners of the black glimmer photo mat. Repeat using the remaining three strips of paper on the remaining three sides of the photo: Use the other strip with the stripes running lengthwise to mat the right edge of the photo and the remaining two strips to mat the top and bottom edges. Ink the edges of all the strips with black. Mat on ivory linen paper, trimming the mat to 3/4” along the top and bottom edges and 7/8” along the left and right edges, then ink the edges black.
  3. Wrap a length of ivory sheer ribbon down the left edge of the ivory linen mat, securing the ribbon tails on the back of the mat. Add three evenly spaced black brads down the ribbon length. Wrap a length of black grosgrain ribbon diagonally around the bottom right corner of the ivory linen mat, securing the tails on the back. Use a black pen to journal the names and date onto the ivory linen mat, then glue the photo centered 1” down from the top of the page.
  4. Punch a 3/4” circle out of black/ivory stripe paper, ink the edges and glue it to the top of one black big brad. Layer one small ivory flower on top of one large ivory flower, add the big brad to the center of the flowers and use the brad to secure the flowers over the black grosgrain ribbon length in the corner of the photo mat.
  5. Add two ivory embossed brads to the black faux ribbon border printed on the background paper, placing one 3/4” in from each edge. Computer journal onto ivory linen paper, then crop into a horizontal rectangle and ink the edges black. Mat on black glimmer paper, trimming the mat to 1/16”, and glue between the two ivory embossed brads, centered under the photo. Cut a 9” length of black grosgrain ribbon and tie it into a shoestring bow. Use a Glue Dot™ to secure the bow in the top left corner of the journaling block.
