Fabulous Friends — By: Shauna Bergulnd-Immel

Supplies:

Designer Tip: Fun patterns, a chic color palette and high contrast black paint make this fresh friends layout pop with cool retro style!

Instructions
Left Page:

  1. Use the yellow with circles paper as the background. Use a foam brush to edge the background paper with black acrylic paint; let dry.
  2. Use a black StazOn ink pad to ink the edges of a horizontal 5”x7” photo (Tip: A StazOn ink pad will dry faster on glossy surfaces than a regular ink pad). Mat the photo on gold glimmer paper, trim the mat to 1/16” and ink the edges. Mat again on purple textured paper, trimming the mat to 5/8”. Edge the purple mat with black acrylic paint; let dry.
  3. Cut two 3” lengths of black grosgrain ribbon. Secure one end of each ribbon length to the back of the left and right edges of the background paper, 3 3/4” from the top edge of the page. Wrap the ribbon lengths around to the front of the page and secure in place. Glue the matted photo 5/8” from the top of the page, covering the ends of the ribbon lengths. Use black mini brads to add one black turn mount to each corner of the photo.
  4. Computer journal the names onto white cardstock, then crop to a small rectangle and ink the edges black. Mat on lime textured paper, trim the mat to 1/16” and ink the edges. Cut out the orange with circles tag and glue the matted journaling to the tag. Use foam tape to secure the tag at an angle, placing the top of the tag over the point where the black grosgrain ribbon and the photo meet on the left side of the page. Cut two 8” lengths of black grosgrain ribbon and trim the tails of each at an angle. Tie each length into a shoestring bow, then use Glue Dots™ to attach one bow over the tab at the top of the tag and the other bow over the point where the ribbon length and the photo meet on the right side of the page.
  5. Use foam alphabet stamps to stamp the word “friends” centered under the photo in black acrylic paint. Dot the “i” in the word “friends” with a black mini brad, then use a black pen to write the word “fabulous” before the word “friends”.

Right Page:

  1. Use the purple words paper as the background. Cut a 2” wide strip off the bottom of the yellow with stripes paper and glue it flush against the right edge of the purple words paper. Use a foam brush to edge the papers with black acrylic paint; let dry. Cut a 13” length of black grosgrain ribbon and lay it over the seam between the purple words and yellow with stripes papers, wrapping the ends around the top and bottom edges of the page to secure on the back.
  2. Ink the edges of two horizontal 5”x7” photos black. Mat each photo, one on lime textured and one on purple textured paper, trim each of the mats to 1/16” and ink the edges. Mat both photos, one on top of the other, on one piece of gold glimmer paper, trimming the mat to 1/4” around each edge and leaving 1/4” of space between the two photos. Edge the gold glimmer mat with black acrylic paint; let dry. Use black mini brads to add one black turn mount to each corner of both photos. Glue the matted photos centered over the purple words portion of the background. Use a black pen to write the place and date next to the top right edge of the gold glimmer mat.
  3. Computer journal the names onto white cardstock, then crop to a small rectangle and ink the edges black. Mat on lime textured paper, trim the mat to 1/16” and ink the edges. Cut out the purple with circles tag and glue the matted journaling to the tag. Use foam tape to secure the tag at an angle over the ribbon length, 5” from the bottom of the page. Cut an 8” length of black grosgrain ribbon and trim the tails at an angle. Tie the length into a shoestring bow and use a Glue Dot™ to attach the bow over the tab at the top of the tag.
