The Silhouette CAMEO is an electronic cutting tool for personal use. Like a home printer, it plugs into your PC or Mac with a simple USB cable. However, instead of printing it uses a small blade to cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, fabric and more up to 12" wide and 10 feet long. The machine also boasts a quiet motor and the ability to register and cut printed materials.

In the box

  • Silhouette electronic cutting tool
  • Silhouette Studio software for Windows XP/Vista/7 and Mac OS X 10.5.8 and higher
  • 51 exclusive cuttable designs
  • Power cable, USB cable
  • 12" cutting mat
  • Cutting blade
  • $10 gift card to the Silhouette Online Store
  • Basic Instruction Guide

How portable is the Cameo to take to crops? Ann is our Cameo expert and she says:

"You can use the Cameo without a computer, as long as you have your designs saved on an SD card (memory card). You can plug the SD card into your computer, save whatever designs you want to cut, and then take the card with you and plug it right into the slot on the CAMEO. The CAMEO has the option to cut designs from the SD card. The CAMEO is also portable in terms of size and weight; you just need a bag big enough to carry it."

Comment This is the most fascinating machine I have ever seen. It has so many possibilities! Although the initial price is a little pricey, the images are cheap, cheap, cheap. I, too, have a Cricut. I would not say the Cameo is better-just a different concept. There are things that you can do with one that you can't do with the other. However, I will use the Cameo more than the Cricut.

Comment I'm so glad to have the Silhouette Cameo! After reading the instructions in the manual and viewing the CD, I cut some bookmarks and loved the results...perfect on the first try. I like being able to download the design that I need from the Silhouette Online Store and having it instantly. The Cameo and I are very good friends already.

Comment I have had my new Cameo for about 1 week now...and I've worn out the blade using it so much! This isn't a bad thing! It just means that I have been able to use it for so many projects! Just hosted a weekend crop, and everyone was just thrilled at what it could do! They all had an opportunity to use it and came up with so many great ideas! Needless to say, I am so happy tht I took the plunge to make this purchase. Now..the sad part...my husband wants me to get rid of my die collection! Not sure I can part with them all just yet...baby steps!

P.S. - I was able to finish 11 layouts in 3 days!

Comment I love the Cameo! I haven't purchased the Designer software to go with it yet, but am enjoying exploring all the capabilities of this machine. It's my first die-cutter, so the learning curve is a bit sharper than I expected, and I'm still getting the hang of adjusting the blade to the correct depth for papers and different cardstock weights. But when I succeed, I absolutely love the results!
