Tip of the Day

Magazine pages make a great surface for applying glue. Tear a page out and place it down before using glue on projects, especially the smaller pieces where glue is bound to get on your work surface. Magazine ink will not rub off like newspaper ink. —Angela

How to Make Handmade Books

Intrigued by handmade books? Intimidated by the techniques? Here’s your guide! Designer Patricia Grass takes the mystery out of making handmade books. In this 96-page book, she covers the basics of bookbinding, like making a cradle, covering and mitering the corners of a cover, necessary materials and terminology. Then she shares designs and techniques for making 15 handmade books, each with a different and unique binding. From a vintage-look French Stitch book to a seashore-inspired Flutter Book, you’ll find a variety of styles and themes. All made simple with easy-to-understand instructions, patterns and Patricia’s tips. Also great for the experienced bookbinder looking for inspiration.
