Halloween Cards

About the Layouts
Technique:
Halloween Cards
Designers: Susan Cobb

No tricks, just a special treat for you: Two brand-new Halloween card ideas! Send special spooky greetings to your friends and loved ones with these colorful designs.

Susan used just one pack of Halloween Brad Buddies to create two eye-catching card focals, and even had four Dress-Ups leftover to make four more cards! To attach a Brad Dress-Up to your Halloween cards or any other project, just place the Dress-Up on your project and use a pencil to lightly mark the holes where the brads will go. Remove the Dress-Up and punch or poke a hole over each pencil mark. Finally, replace the Dress-Up and add the brads to the pre-punched holes. For extra reinforcement, especially on projects like cards that will be handled frequently, you can add one or two Zots under the metal Dress-Up to make sure it stays in place.

Supplies:

Instructions:
For the Card Front:

  1. Place the card with the fold on the left, then trim 1 1/2" off the bottom of the card to create a 5" square. Cover the card front with black glimmer paper. Glue a 4 3/4" square of orange blocks paper centered on the card front, then use a black pen to draw a wavy line across the bottom of the orange paper.
  2. Cut a piece of orange blocks paper and mat it on glimmer paper then add a yellow mini brad to each corner. Knot a 3" length of orange grosgrain ribbon and use a Zot to secure the knot in the bottom right corner of the slide mount.
  3. Ink the edges of the yellow textured tag. Cut one strip of blocks off the orange blocks paper and trim to 1"-long. Ink the edges and fold in half, then glue the loose ends behind the top of the tag. Add a black mini brad to the top of the tag. Use a yellow brad and an orange mini brad to attach the "Boo!" Brad Buddies over the yellow tag, dotting the exclamation mark with another orange mini brad. Glue the embellished tag at an angle in the slide mount window.

For the Card Inside:

  1. Mat a 2 1/2" square of light yellow textured paper on black glimmer paper, trimming the mat to 1/16". Computer journal "Happy Halloween!" onto the orange cirlcles/blocks tag. Use a black pen to draw a wavy line across the bottom of the tag, then glue the tag centered on the yellow square. Glue the whole piece centered on the inside of the card.

Instructions:
For the Card Front:

  1. Place the card with the fold on the left and cover the card front with lime mesh paper. Trim off the top left and top right corners of the card to create a tag shape, then ink the card edges black.
  2. Mat a 1" square of dark purple textured paper on black glimmer paper, trimming the mat to 1/16". Glue centered, even with the top edge of the card. Add the "fun" rub-on to the top of a white big brad, then add the brad centered over the purple square.
  3. Cut a 1/4"-wide strip of dark purple textured paper and ink and ink the edges. Mat one long edge on black glimmer paper, trimming the mat to 1/16". Mat the other long edge on white cardstock, trim the mat to 1/16" and ink the edge. Glue the whole strip horizontally, 1/2" from the bottom of the card, then trim any excess even with the edges of the card. Add three black mini brads evenly spaced across the purple strip.
  4. Cut a 3/4"-wide strip of dark purple textured paper and ink the edges. Mat both long edges on black glimmer paper, trimming the mats to 1/16". Glue the strip 1/2" above the other strip, trimming any excess even with the edges of the card. Use Zots to secure a length of polka dotted rick rack across the purple strip, trimming the excess even with the edges of the card. Add the "treat" rub-on to the top of a white big brad, then add the brad over the left end of the rick rack.
  5. Line the back of a haunted house Dress-Up with dark purple textured paper so the paper shows through the house windows. Use three ghost brads to attach the Dress-Up centered under the tab at the top of the card.
  6. Computer journal "trick" onto the small purple textured tag and ink the edges. Use a black brad to add the tag at an angle to the left of the Dress-Up. Computer journal "or" onto white cardstock and punch to a 1/4" circle. Ink the edges of the circle, then glue over a black brad. Add the brad over the bottom of the "trick" tag to complete the phrase "trick or treat".

For the Card Inside:

  1. Cover the inside of the card with dark purple textured paper and ink the edges. Ink the edges of a 1/2"-wide strip of lime mesh paper. Glue the lime strip horizontally, 3/4" from the bottom of the card, trimming any excess even with the edge of the card.
  2. Computer journal "hauntings!" over the bottom of the lime textured tag and ink the edges of the tag. Run a length of dotted rick rack across the tag, wrapping the ends around the edges of the tag to secure on the back. Add a black brad to the top of the tag, then glue the tag centered on the inside of the card. Add the "happy" rub-on to the top of a white big brad and add the brad over the left edge of the lime tag to complete the phrase "happy hauntings!".
