Instructions:

1. Susan used burlap paper for her background. She tore a plaid square diagonally in half, glued one half to each of the top corners and chalked the edges. She used a 6 1/2” piece of the plaid across the center of the page, then added torn strips: a 1/2” piece of yellow at the top, a 1/2” piece of brown and 1 1/4” piece of yellow with torn edges at the bottom.
2. Susan matted the photo on yellow, brown and black, chalking the brown layer. She centered it on the page, then strung fiber across the bottom with buttons and an apothecary treasure bottle tied in the center.
3. She computer journaled on yellow, then tore around the edges and chalked them. Susan also tore and chalked the edges of the botanical ephemera sunflowers to form tags. The chocolate fibers tied to the tag tops complement Maya’s braids.
4. Susan sanded the embossed paper charms, brushed them with brown paint and wiped it off, then added them to the page as shown.
