Technique: Chalking Color Me™ Card Toppers
To chalk the larger, open areas of the Color Me™ toppers, use the decorator chalk applicator handle with the largest pompom for each color, switching to small pompoms for the edges. For the smaller, intricate areas, I used chalk pencils. They aren't quite as bright as the decorator chalks, but they make it easy to color intricate areas.
Instructions:
- For the card front: Turn the card with the fold on the left. Use the chalk pencils to color in the large butterfly on the Butterflies cutaway card topper, using the photo as a reference for color placement. Chalk the small butterfly lavender. Use the decorator chalk set to color the remainder of the topper, chalking the outer frame yellow and the patterned area dark pink. Chalk the inner frame mint green and the center area yellow. Spray with fixative.
- Glue the topper to the card front, then cut along the curving edge, cutting through both layers. Cut out the 2 3/4" Butterflies blank label and chalk it purple. Stamp “hope & peace” on it, then spray with fixative. Fold one end of the ribbon into a 1" loop. Fold the long ribbon end up behind the loop, then secure the loop and tail with glue. Glue behind the left end of the label, then foam tape the label as shown.
- For the inside: Cover the inside with suede paper, then round the corners with the 1/2" punch. Carefully cut the center from the bracket butterfly topper (the outer section can be used for the Butterfly Window Card if left intact when cutting out the center or cut apart for the Black & White Gatefold Card). Cut the center in half crosswise, then chalk the butterflies on one half pink and those on the other half lavender. Glue to the inside as shown. Cut out the 2 1/2" Butterflies blank label and chalk the frame mint and the butterfly pink. Stamp “sending you…” on the label, then foam tape to the center.
