Technique: Blending Colors with Spectrum Noir pens
The fine tips on Spectrum Noir pens make it easy to color the images and frames on the Color Me™ toppers. To shade the flowers, I usually choose two or three shades of one color; for these flowers I used two colors. Start by coloring the flower with the lightest shade, covering just one or two petals at a time so they don't dry out before you do the shading. Now use the dark pen to color just where shadows would be—in the centers, petal edges, etc. Use the light pen to blend the two colors together, coloring where the two shades meet. For more subtle coloring, use pens very close to the same shade, or blend three shades together.

Instructions:

  1. For the pocket: With the card folded, cut the card to 3 1/4"x5" and set the remainder aside. Open the card and cut 1/4" off the back right and bottom edges. Close the card and wrap the front right and bottom edges to the back, then trim off the folded corner so the tabs lie flat. Cover the pocket front with Rock On green/blue paper.
  2. Cut out the Floral card topper and cut in half. Follow the directions above to color the large flower with CR4 and shade with CR6. Color the leaves with JG3 and shade with JG5. Color the small flowers with CT1 and shade with CT3, then dab GB5 in the centers. Color the frame with TB8, then glue to the pocket front.
  3. Punch a half circle centered in the front top edge, then use tape to secure the pocket tabs to the inside back. Cut out the Floral small flower, color as for the yellow flowers, and foam tape as shown. Cut out the Floral 2" blank tag and color the frame with TB8. Color the inner frame with CR4 and the flowers as for the pocket front. Stamp “just for you” and a small heart with black. Knot a 3" ribbon, trim the ends, and glue to the tag back at the upper left. Foam tape to the pocket as shown.
  4. For the first tag: Cut out the Damask 2 1/8" bracket tag and color the outer frame with DR7. Stamp the large heart with red barn, then stamp “happy” in black. Mat on cardstock with 1/16" borders and punch a hole at the top. Place a red sparklet as shown.
  5. For the second tag: Trace and cut the squared oval label from iris suede paper then cut the rounded section off one end. Cut 2"x2 1/2" Rock On green/blue paper and mat the long edges on Rock On tan paper with 1/8" borders. Glue to the tag and trim the excess. Cut out the 2 1/2" Floral blank tag and color the outer edges with TB8. Stamp “you’re in my thoughts” in black then glue to the tag and insert a brad as shown. Mat on cardstock with 1/16" borders and punch a hole in the rounded end.
  6. For the third tag: Trace and cut the scalloped tag from forest suede paper. Cut 2"x2 3/8" Rock On green paper and mat the long edges on Rock On tan paper with 1/8" borders. Glue to the tag as shown. Cut out the 2 5/8" Floral blank tag and color the outer frames with JG5. Stamp “you’re in my heart” in black then glue to the tag and insert the brad as shown. Punch a hole in the end.
  7. For the fourth tag: Trace and cut the Victorian label from smoke suede paper and cut the rounded section off one end. Cut 2 1/2"x2" Rock On blue/tan paper and mat the long edges on navy suede paper with 1/8" borders. Glue to the label and trim the excess. Cut out the 3 1/8" floral label and color the outer frames with TB8. Color the flowers as for the large flower on the pocket and stamp “you make me smile” in black. Glue to the label and insert the brad as shown. Mat the label on cardstock with 1/16" borders and punch a hole in the end.
  8. For the fifth tag: Trace and cut bracket label A from navy suede paper, then trim off the pointed ends. Cut 4"x2" Rock On green/blue paper and mat the long edges on Rock On tan paper with 1/8" borders. Glue to the tag and trim the excess. Cut out the 2 1/2" Floral label and color the text area with TB8. Stamp “know that you are loved” in black and glue to the tag. Insert the brads as shown, then mat the tag on cardstock with 1/16" borders and punch a hole in the end.
  9. Finishing: Attach the tags to the binding ring in order, #5 first and #1 last. Close the ring. Cut a 4" red mesh ribbon, then cut in half lengthwise. Tie one piece onto the binding ring, then tie three more 4" ribbons onto the ring, varying the styles. Insert the tag book into the pocket.
