Designer Tip: To make this as easy as possible, I simply adhered the Washi tape in strips to white paper, then cut them to ⅝"-1⅜" long. I trimmed one end of each in a “V” before matting it on orange paper. You could also cut the flags in triangles or other pennant shapes before matting, then mix up the shapes on your banners.
Instructions
- For the card front: Turn the card with the fold at the top and cover the front with dark orange paper. Cut 6¼"x4¾" orange striped paper and glue centered on the front. Cut 5¼"x3¾" orange plaid paper and mat on black cardstock with 1/16" borders. Place a 5" Dazzles™ line curving from the center left edge up to the top, ⅞" from the right edge. Trim the ends.
- Place one 5"-6" length of each Washi tape on white paper and trim along the edges. (Because the tape is translucent, backing it with white will allow the colors to remain bright.) Cut the strips into sections, ⅝"-1⅜" long. Cut one end of each section in a “V,” then mat each on light orange paper with 1/32" borders.
- Glue the banner flags evenly spaced to the curved Dazzles™ line, alternating the colors and styles. Place a 6" Dazzles™ line curving from the top, ½" from the left edge down to the lower right edge, 1½" from the bottom. Glue more flags as shown.
- Stamp “surprise” on orange textured paper, then trim to fit a black frame. Glue it in the frame, then glue to the plaid paper in the upper open area. Insert a brad in each frame end, then glue the plaid paper centered on the front.
- For the inside: Cut 6½"x1½" orange textured paper and mat the long edges on black cardstock with 1/16" borders. Glue centered across the inside. Use another Dazzles™ line and the remaining flags to create another banner as for the front, placing it as shown. Stamp “so many candles…” and “birthday wishes” on the strip as shown.
