Cut & Emboss Embellishments

Hi everyone! This week I have been playing with Momenta Cut & Emboss Sets. I was impressed with how easy it was to create a really nice embossed die-cut embellishment for my cards. I LOVE butterflies and started with the Butterfly Cut & Emboss Set first.

I used Watercolor Paper and some Stencil tape to keep the butterfly embossing die positioned over the die-cut image. Once in position, I placed the butterfly embossing plate and watercolor butterfly on a Silicone Rubber Embossing Mat. The spongy mat gives the embossing plate something to press into when it’s run through a Die Cutting Machine.

The Creative Impressions Essentials Cosmic Shimmer Iridescent Watercolor Palette contains a great spectrum of colors. I selected blues and greens for my Watercolor Paper butterflies.

First I painted the embossed background with very watery blue paint and then I painted the de-bossed portions of the wings with both blue and green watercolors. Once dry, I added some sparkle with Morning Dew Nuvo Crystal Drops onto the de-bossed portions and let dry.

I placed my butterflies on Twilight Jewels Paper and a Bendi Die-Cut Card. Lime Jewel Border Dazzles™ Stickers along the top and bottom card edges, Birthday Greetings Dazzles™ Stickers and white velvet glitter ribbon from Twilight Jewels Ribbons added the finishing touches.

When I first saw the Bird Cut & Emboss Set I knew I was going to use it with Song Birds Paper Pack, Scrapbooking Dazzles™ Stickers and Ribbon Set! I cut and embossed my sweet little bird from black cardstock and then brushed Indian Gold Nuvo Embellishment Mousse over the embossed surface. I foam taped the bird to the card and then added some gold around the edges of my card.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you come away inspired to make something today. Happy crafting!

Paper Crafts For Your Home

Hi everyone, I’m so excited to show you some 3-D paper crafts that make adorable home decor and great gifts!

These little garden boxes of succulents and cacti were easy and fun to make! I used Sizzix Thinlits Succulents 2-D & 3-D Die Set and cut the shapes from green, aqua, gray and lavender Pastel Cardstock, curved the petal by wrapping each around a pencil and then inked the edges purple, green, dark pink and aqua before assembling.

I glued floral foam (from my local dollar store) into large and medium size Tim Holtz Idea-ology Vignette Boxes and tucked Spanish Moss (dollar store again) around the edges.

For additional dimension, I placed dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew on the round cactus sections and let dry. I followed the manufacturer’s instructions for assembling the 3-D pieces and hot glued them directly to the foam. I Tucked moss among the pieces to cover the foam, use Twilight Jewels sheer purple dot ribbon to make a bow for each box and glue, as shown.

To make a “Welcome” wall hanging I covered a chipboard “W” with barn wood Seaside Paper. I used Timber Brown StazOn™ Ink along the letter edges and bottom half of the Galvanized Metal Welcome Sign and hot glued the sign across the letter. I hot glued a cluster of paper succulents and moss to the bottom left, a single succulent and moss to the top right, and a tiny succulent overlapping the “Welcome” sign. I made a loopy bow from brown Seaside Ribbon Set and glue it to the top left side of the succulent. Place a Clear Self-Adhesive Hanger on the top back of the on the “W” center.

This 3-D hydrangea card includes a canning jar vase from Well Preserved Stamp Set, Garden Notes Hydrangea Cutting Die Set Inside/Outside Greetings Dazzles™ Stickers and Romantique Paper Pack  & Ribbon Set.

I cut the individual blossoms from both pink and light blue Romantique papers and inked each using a Pink Ink Pad. I used a stylus to gently curve the blossom petals and then glued them in a tight cluster, as shown. Glue a pink seed bead, from Pretty Princess Embellishment Bottle, to the centers of random blossoms. Die cut the leaves and stems from green Romantique Paper and ink edges with a green ink pad. To see this process, check out the Elizabeth Craft Weekly Webisode, which will air tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by and remember to set aside some time during these long summer evenings to make something special! Happy crafting!

NEW Twilight Jewels Brings The Sparkle!

Hello everyone! Have you seen Paper Wishes NEW Twilight Jewels Collection? The beautiful jewel tone colors and sparkly celestial theme make me what to jump right in and craft!

Just in time for Mother’s Day! Susan made these amazing Paper Mache Letters, perfect for your mom or your craft space! Susan painted each 8″ tall letter with Cosmic Shimmer Pink Plum Paint and after they dried she used glue stick on the front surface of each and covered with a different patterned paper from Twilight Jewels. She embellished the letters differently using Twilight Jewels Scrapbooking Dazzles™ stickers and Ribbon Set. She used Soft Pink Ranunculus silk flowers, Tiny Tags & Little Labels Template to make a sweet “Happy Mother’s Day!” tag and Savannah Stroll Buttons for the final touch!

123 white Dazzles™ with silver foil edging!

The Twilight Jewels Scrapbooking Dazzles™ are perfect for embellishing with Jewel Dazzles™, Sequins, Pearls, Stickles Glitter Glue and Nuvo Crystal Drops.

Add even more sparkle to Paper Mache Letters with Glitter Embossing Powder! First, I painted the letter with Peacock Cosmic Shimmer Paint, then I used the surface on the VersaMark Watermark Stamp Pad to apply sticky embossing ink to the letter surface. After that I sprinkled Calypso Glitter Embossing Powder over the inked surface and heated with heat gun to melt the embossing powder onto the letter surface. Embellish the letter with a little ribbon from Wildflower Ribbon Set and a Purple Rose and you’re done!

This is such a quick and easy project and it would make a great gift.

Here is a quick little video to show you how easy it is to make your own monogram letter:

For this sparkling page, I embellished the Twilight Jewels Scrapbooking Dazzles™ stickers with teal half pearls from Gemstone Embellishment Bottle.

This Center Step Die-Cut card uses NEW Words Scrapbooking Dazzles™ black stickers over a 3 1/4″ wide die-cut circle from 8 Circles and Scallops Cutting Dies. Add a sweet pink flower and coordinating ribbon and you’re done!

I hope you enjoy the Twilight Jewels Collection as much as I do. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!

Oh So Thankful (And Black Friday Begins NOW!)

Happy Thanksgiving from Hot Off The Press & Paper Wishes!

It’s Thanksgiving week! In our hometown of Canby, Oregon, the crisp, cold weather has finally arrived, and it’s starting to really feel like the holidays (in fact I’ve already spotted a few Christmas lights)! While talking about plans for the upcoming holiday weekend, I asked some of the others here to share what they were feeling thankful for:

“I am thankful for the blessings that are my family, my friends and my home.”

LeNae Gerig, Design Team

“As ever, I am thankful for my two amazing boys, Lance & Connor! Also very thankful for a kind and caring boyfriend (hi Ken!) and that I am able to live a creative life through work. A dream come true!”

Gail Booth, Webisodes & Design Team

mecards“I’m thankful for my family and friends, our good health and all of the wonderful memories we have shared.”

Michelle Gustafson, Paper Wishes Blog & Social Media

melissahelhat“Hmmm, I’d say I’m thankful to be employed, but that’s way too suck-up-ish!”

Melissa, Customer Service

“I’m thankful for the Marine Corps. Without them my parents would not have met and I would not have been born. Without them I would not have met my husband. Semper Fi!”

Paulette Jarvey, Owner & President

And here we are (at least most of us)! Guess what we’re thankful for?

You are the reason we do what we do here. Paper Wishes is a small, family-owned business, and as much as we love to inspire you and all of the Paper Wishers out there, it’s ultimately YOUR creativity that keeps us going! So thank you, and from all of us here at Hot Off The Press & Paper Wishes:

Steampunk Collection + Masculine Card Ideas!!!

Sometimes “pretty” comes easy, while “manly” remains a little more elusive. How do you make a pretty (or rather, manly) card for a man? Paper Wishes designers to the rescue! Below are some of my favorite masculine looks our incredible design team created using Hot Off The Press’ new Steampunk Collection!

Susan created the card below using Steampunk Foiled Fancies™ which are gold-foiled, deeply embossed die-cuts just waiting for your creative touch! Ink them, sand them, or add paint, markers and more for incredible effects. Susan colored her Foiled Fancies™ hot air balloon, gears and butterfly with Spectrum Noir™ markers. She then stamped black designs from the Fancy Patterns stamp set using Black StazOn® ink. Click on the project for details.

Here’s a gorgeous card from Teresa who has embellished a Steampunk Foil Paper Tole “winged clock” with tiny, self-adhesive copper “nailheads.” She’s also used the Steampunk stamp set and Gold StazOn® ink for her card greeting! I just love this look, especially with that brown twill ribbon!

On this version, Gail customized her Foiled Fancies™ by inking them with black StazOn®, and applying rubbing alcohol over the top for a pewter look. She then combined her Foiled Fancies™ with Steampunk Scrapbooking Dazzles™. She backed her Dazzles™ heart and gears with Mocha Suede specialty paper, then layered her pieces together with foam tape. Wonderful dimension!!

Steampunk is the perfect collection for creating masculine cards, with deep brown and golden tones, teal accents and “manly” motifs like gears, top hats and more. You’ll be able to make the perfect birthday card for your husband, son, father, brother or any other special guy!

I hope you have a love-filled Valentine’s Day! <3

Brighten Up With Our “Colorist” Collection!

The February sun is shining down on Hot Off The Press today, and I could’ve swore I felt the tiniest twitch of spring fever. Not full-blown-can’t-focus-must-clean-my-house spring fever. Just a pinch. Enough to remind me that, eventually, winter will give way to springtime.

To shake off some of the winter grays, I’m sharing our new Colorist Collection with you! The 12″x12″ paper pack features black and white outline artwork on one side, with vibrantly colored, dotted patterns on the other! These are some of the most versatile papers for papercrafters EVER! The black and white motif, contrasted against the bold colors and simple polka dots allows these papers to really travel through the seasons.

Below, Gail’s adorable easel card was covered with Colorist papers, and her framed robin focal (cut from the Feathered Friends Colorist book) was colored in with Spectrum Noir™ markers. I love how she used a ribbon bow to prop up her card front! And the floral background paper inside is so striking when left black and white! Click on the card for Gail’s supplies and instructions.

Click for instructions!

Susan’s card below features Colorist Scrapbooking Dazzles™ stickers, and I love the look of this card! For her greeting, she simply placed the Dazzles™ “Celebrate…” sticker onto matted Colorist papers. The flowers were made by placing Dazzles™ flower stickers onto Double-Sided Adhesive. She covered the adhesive with Crystal Micro Glitter, and backed the flowers with Colorist papers for beautiful sparkle and shine! Click her card for more details.

Here’s a scrapbook page that LeNae created using Colorist papers, Colorist Scrapbooking Dazzles™ and Colorist ribbon. You can color these papers any way you like. Use markers, colored pencils, chalk, ink, anything… and make it your own! 🙂

Designed by LeNae Gerig

This last card easily makes my “Top 10” list—take a look! LeNae has covered a Center Step card with Colorist papers that she colored in with ArtGrip Watercolor Pencils. The focal is Florals for Colorists Paper Tole which is a quick and easy way to get a gorgeous, playful look like this! You can click on the card for supplies and instructions.

Adorable Mini Gatefold Card Ideas!

Happy Wednesday to all our Paper Wishers!

Today I wanted to show you two incredible cards made with Hot Off The Press’ new Mini Gate Fold Cards Template! I’ve really enjoyed this particular template because the cards are pretty quick to make, so you can get right to all the creative fun of decorating and embellishing! The cards are 4″ square when closed for a super cute “mini” card. I love them! (I realize I say this about nearly everything, but it’s the truth—a girl could have a hundred “favorites” around here!)

This versatile template allows you to create 5 different gatefold focals—butterfly, label, heart, dragonfly and flower. There’s also a Christmas version with snowflake, ornament, gingerbread man, candy cane and Christmas tree options, as well as a Mini Envelope Template that creates coordinating 5″ square envelopes! Click each image for product details.

Dragonfly Gatefold Card by Gail Booth

Designer Tip: Follow the template instructions to trace, cut out and fold the dragonfly panels from cardstock, then swipe the dragonfly wings of the panels with VersaMark™. Dust with silver embossing powder and heat to melt. Cut out wings and mini dragonflies to emboss with silver and green glitter embossing powders as shown. Use Ultra Clear tape to attach the tabs to the back of the card base.

Right away you notice Gail’s luxurious, silver-embossed dragonflies! After embossing her dragonflies silver, she simply repeated the embossing process to add green glitter embossing to the edges and the smaller, center wings. She also added Silver Baby Bling rhinestones for extra sparkle. Because a card can never sparkle too much! 😀

LOVE Card by Susan Cobb

Designer’s Tip: To create the focal, cover the heart halves with ivory/tan swirls paper, trimming the edges even with the heart halves. Ink the edges of the heart halves with brown ink. Press out pieces #2 and #3 of the paper tole rose and layer with foam tape. With the card closed, center the rose on the heart, then glue only the left side of the rose to the left side of the heart. Color Tiny Words & Phrases Dazzles™  “LOVE” with brown ink and let dry. Place the word on the lower left portion of the card as shown.

It’s a really sweet card, and I could see creating some of these in advance so they’re ready to decorate as needed!

Pop-Up Box Card with Gold Shadow-Stamped Acetate!

Happy Wednesday! Here’s a gorgeous card that you might not have seen! Gail designed it for our Stamping 101 page—if you haven’t visited before, you should take a look. Stamping 101 features stamping basics, plus more advanced techniques, helpful hints, information on ink pads and of course, more projects!

Designed by Gail Booth

Designed by Gail Booth

Designer Tip: Stamping on acetate with Metallic StazOn® can be slippery, so use light pressure. I used a color printer to journal “Mom” on the back panel, but black would work fine, or you could write “Mom” with a burgundy colored marker.

1. Card base: Cut six 2½”x2½” and one 2½”x5½” Roses & Lace green lace papers. Use Gold StazOn® to stamp the lace border centered at the bottom of three square pieces and the one long piece, then mat all of the pieces on the large pink rose paper with 1/8” borders. Follow the die-cut pop-up box instructions to assemble the box with Ultra Tape, but don’t install the inner supports yet. Close the box and lay flat on your work surface. Glue the stamped matted pieces onto the bottom panels with the long piece on the back panel (the one without an upper scored flap), then the remaining pieces onto the upper flaps (these will flop downward when the box is opened).

2. Card front: Open the box with the flaps down and the long panel at the back. Cut four 2 5/8”x2 5/8” pink lace papers. Journal “Mom” in burgundy on the center right side of one piece. Stamp the lace border in gold centered at the bottom of three pieces and at the top of the “Mom” piece, placing the scalloped edge on the edge of the paper. Cut 1/16” around the scalloped edge of the stamped lace, then mat all of the pieces on burgundy lace paper with 1/16” borders. Punch holes along the straight edge of the stamped lace, 1/8” from each side, and two holes centered at each scalloped valley, as shown. Lace with 1/8” ivory grosgrain, tying a bow at the center of two pieces. Glue the stamped matted pieces onto the three folded down panels and the “Mom” piece on the back panel, with the lace on the outer edge of each panel, and the bows on the center panels, as shown.

3. Supports: Stamp the lace border in gold centered at the top of two 2¾”x1½” green lace papers. Cut 1/16” around the scalloped edge of the stamped lace, then glue the strips even with the bottom of the two inner supports. Ultra Tape the two supports in place, as shown on the pop-up box instructions, close to the top open edge of the box (the lace edges extend above the opening.

4. TECHNIQUE: Shadow Stamping on Acetate: Stamp “Thinking of You” and “Wishing You a Beautiful Day” in gold on the heat resistant acetate, then stamp the same images over the first ones again with Scarlet SurfaceZ ink, offsetting the image up and to the right a bit for a shadow effect. Let dry, then cut out the sentiments and Zot™ onto the front and back panels, as shown. Use the same technique to stamp several small flowers, butterflies, hearts and scrolls. Cut out around the edge of each stamped image.

5. Zot™ ¼” wide strips from the acetate that comes with the pop-up box onto the backs of the pieces and Zot™ the other end of the strips onto the backs of the supports, arranging the pieces as shown. Zot™ on a scroll on the back panel and two tiny butterflies on the front and back panels.
