Garden Walk Cardmaking

Hello everyone! I love this time of year when I can share more new and wonderful paper packs with you! Today is Garden Walk! These papers are inspired by botanical gardens, but the colors are also perfect for the fall season.

This first card features the Penny Black Serenity & Peace tree and Believe dies which are both so versatile.

The 4″ Round Paper Doily is easily customized by inking the edge with bronze ink from Basics Cat’s Eye® Queue® Ink Pads.

Die cut the Serenity & Peace tree from Double Sided Adhesive and place it over the doily.

After removing the backing I sprinkled Gemstones Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes over the adhesive and then used Scoochy Foam square to burnish off the excess flake. Don’t waste it! Return the excess flakes to the jar and use it again.

Cut the Penny Black Believe die from black cardstock and glue over the trunk of the tree.

For a completely different look I paired the Garden Walk Papers and Ribbon Set with the Prima Princess Collection Stella Stamp and Penny Black Vine Borders Cutting Dies.

After stamping the image with Black Memento Ink, I used FS7 from Pastels Spectrum Noir™ Pen Set to outline areas on the face and body.

Next I colored the skin with FS4, blending the darker shade with the light.

If coloring stamps with skin tones intimidates you, then consider spot coloring the image, omitting the skin tones and focusing on the flowers.

When coloring the flowers, I continued to use Pastels Spectrum Noir™ Pen Set as well as Purple and Pink Spectrum Noir™ Pen Sets. Once cut out I can easily substitute this spot colored image for the fully colored one on my card.

Thanks for joining me today. Remember to make some time during the week to craft something pretty. Happy Crafting!

Paper Crafts For Your Home

Hi everyone, I’m so excited to show you some 3-D paper crafts that make adorable home decor and great gifts!

These little garden boxes of succulents and cacti were easy and fun to make! I used Sizzix Thinlits Succulents 2-D & 3-D Die Set and cut the shapes from green, aqua, gray and lavender Pastel Cardstock, curved the petal by wrapping each around a pencil and then inked the edges purple, green, dark pink and aqua before assembling.

I glued floral foam (from my local dollar store) into large and medium size Tim Holtz Idea-ology Vignette Boxes and tucked Spanish Moss (dollar store again) around the edges.

For additional dimension, I placed dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew on the round cactus sections and let dry. I followed the manufacturer’s instructions for assembling the 3-D pieces and hot glued them directly to the foam. I Tucked moss among the pieces to cover the foam, use Twilight Jewels sheer purple dot ribbon to make a bow for each box and glue, as shown.

To make a “Welcome” wall hanging I covered a chipboard “W” with barn wood Seaside Paper. I used Timber Brown StazOn™ Ink along the letter edges and bottom half of the Galvanized Metal Welcome Sign and hot glued the sign across the letter. I hot glued a cluster of paper succulents and moss to the bottom left, a single succulent and moss to the top right, and a tiny succulent overlapping the “Welcome” sign. I made a loopy bow from brown Seaside Ribbon Set and glue it to the top left side of the succulent. Place a Clear Self-Adhesive Hanger on the top back of the on the “W” center.

This 3-D hydrangea card includes a canning jar vase from Well Preserved Stamp Set, Garden Notes Hydrangea Cutting Die Set Inside/Outside Greetings Dazzles™ Stickers and Romantique Paper Pack  & Ribbon Set.

I cut the individual blossoms from both pink and light blue Romantique papers and inked each using a Pink Ink Pad. I used a stylus to gently curve the blossom petals and then glued them in a tight cluster, as shown. Glue a pink seed bead, from Pretty Princess Embellishment Bottle, to the centers of random blossoms. Die cut the leaves and stems from green Romantique Paper and ink edges with a green ink pad. To see this process, check out the Elizabeth Craft Weekly Webisode, which will air tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by and remember to set aside some time during these long summer evenings to make something special! Happy crafting!

NEW Twilight Jewels Brings The Sparkle!

Hello everyone! Have you seen Paper Wishes NEW Twilight Jewels Collection? The beautiful jewel tone colors and sparkly celestial theme make me what to jump right in and craft!

Just in time for Mother’s Day! Susan made these amazing Paper Mache Letters, perfect for your mom or your craft space! Susan painted each 8″ tall letter with Cosmic Shimmer Pink Plum Paint and after they dried she used glue stick on the front surface of each and covered with a different patterned paper from Twilight Jewels. She embellished the letters differently using Twilight Jewels Scrapbooking Dazzles™ stickers and Ribbon Set. She used Soft Pink Ranunculus silk flowers, Tiny Tags & Little Labels Template to make a sweet “Happy Mother’s Day!” tag and Savannah Stroll Buttons for the final touch!

123 white Dazzles™ with silver foil edging!

The Twilight Jewels Scrapbooking Dazzles™ are perfect for embellishing with Jewel Dazzles™, Sequins, Pearls, Stickles Glitter Glue and Nuvo Crystal Drops.

Add even more sparkle to Paper Mache Letters with Glitter Embossing Powder! First, I painted the letter with Peacock Cosmic Shimmer Paint, then I used the surface on the VersaMark Watermark Stamp Pad to apply sticky embossing ink to the letter surface. After that I sprinkled Calypso Glitter Embossing Powder over the inked surface and heated with heat gun to melt the embossing powder onto the letter surface. Embellish the letter with a little ribbon from Wildflower Ribbon Set and a Purple Rose and you’re done!

This is such a quick and easy project and it would make a great gift.

Here is a quick little video to show you how easy it is to make your own monogram letter:

For this sparkling page, I embellished the Twilight Jewels Scrapbooking Dazzles™ stickers with teal half pearls from Gemstone Embellishment Bottle.

This Center Step Die-Cut card uses NEW Words Scrapbooking Dazzles™ black stickers over a 3 1/4″ wide die-cut circle from 8 Circles and Scallops Cutting Dies. Add a sweet pink flower and coordinating ribbon and you’re done!

I hope you enjoy the Twilight Jewels Collection as much as I do. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!

Join Us for World Cardmaking Day 2016!!!

The arrival of fall means that World Cardmaking Day is just around the corner, and this year it falls on Saturday, October 1st! In the past, we’ve done sketch challenges, but this year I thought we’d try something new.

Working at Paper Wishes, I’m thankful everyday for the love, support and creativity that comes directly from our Paper Wishers. You applaud and cheer our successes, and if we make a mistake, together we work to make it right (hey, no one’s perfect)! But above and beyond that, your creativity is practically infinite! You post pictures in our galleries, on Facebook and even mail us the amazing projects you create. You’ve created a wonderful community on the Paper Wishes Message Board where you connect and craft with boundless enthusiasm. You travel from out-of-state to attend our local Girlfriends Getaway just to create with us!

You choose Paper Wishes, and support Hot Off The Press products. And that’s the biggest (and most humbling) reward because truly, we’re here to inspire your creative spirit. When you buy our products, it means we’ve done our job.

Some of our girlfriends! 🙂

So this year for World Cardmaking Day, I thought I’d challenge you all to create cards around a simple theme: Thankfulness.

While you could also be inspired by the season, this “thankfulness” theme can be interpreted any way you wish! Maybe it’s a fall-themed greeting card, but it could also be a  “thank you” card! Or a special card created just for someone you’re thankful for. Whatever you decide, we want you to join us in creating a special Thankfulness card!

Post your card(s) here in the comments, or post them to our Facebook WCMD event page! Our contest closes on Monday, October 3rd, 2016 at 8am PST so you have one week to express your creativity and show us what “thankfulness” means to you. I can’t wait to see!

Thank you all for being part of the Paper Wishes family!

Paper Wishes Celebrates “Live Creative” Day!

September 14th is National Live Creative Day and we all know that creativity comes in many, many forms! The people who work at Paper Wishes are certainly a creative bunch, and their creativity is manifested in lots of ways beyond card making and papercrafting (although there’s lots of that too). I’d like to share with you some of the people I work with here at Paper Wishes, and the creative endeavors that they pursue!

LeNae is a member of our Design Team, and as of this September, she’s been at Paper Wishes for 22 years! She is all kinds of creative, and environmentally conscious as well. She felted an old wool sweater in hot water and sewed it into a very pretty tote bag!

Meet Melissa from Customer Service! Her customer service skills are surpassed only by her fabulous sense of humor and possibly her horsemanship! Here she is riding while wearing what’s been dubbed as the “Hel-hat!” Melissa created this striking helmet/hat combo to protect herself from falls as well as sunburn! Very creative!

Kelly is one of our wonderful, irreplaceable Warehouse Assistants, and she’s also an incredibly gifted quilter! Here are two of her latest projects—a couple of fall-themed mini quilts!

kellyquilts

Brittany is our new Editor/Proofer and she probably has one of the most decorated offices here! She has created lots of rustic-yet-glittery art for her walls—here she is with one of her favorite, colorful accents!

brittanyofficeart

You all know Gail from our webisodes, and she’s a true artist! Here are just two of the many drawings and illustrations she’s created.

gailillustrations

The Christmas Tree is from a series of drawings she created for her family, and “Disconnected” is an illustration that was published in Perceptions, a local art & poetry publication. Here’s a closeup!

Next up is Cristina from Marketing! She uses her Silhouette Cameo to create amazing invitations, signs & more! Here’s one of her recent projects…

Victoria, another longtime member of the Paper Wishes team, creates our Paper Wishes catalogs, Personal Shopper newsletters and lots more! An avid spinner and knitter, she hand knitted this shawl from silk & wool yarn she spun herself—wow!!

And finally, here’s me! After photographing everybody else, I figured I’d better pony up with something too! Here are a couple of the cards I’ve had fun making recently!

AND I plan on making even more cards at Girlfriends Getaway on Sept. 17th! This year I’ll get to be there, along with my mom, to get in on the fun and hopefully provide a little behind-the-scenes coverage!

This is a sold-out event, but you can still craft along with us by ordering the 2016 Girlfriends Getaway Kit! The kit comes with everything you need to create the same projects we will make at Girlfriends Getaway PLUS you get Paulette’s DVD that guides you through step by step! There is a limited number of kits and soon you’ll be able to sign up to be notified when the kit becomes available so stay tuned! 😀

What will we be making at Girlfriends Getaway this year? I’m glad you asked because I have one more creative item to share with you! Susan from our Design Team came up with this fabulous clock (yes, a real clock!) that everyone who attends Girlfriends Getaway (or orders the kit) will have a chance to make—take a look!

I love this, and I can’t wait to create one at Girlfriends Getaway! I hope you enjoyed getting to meet some of the Paper Wishes team, and we hope that you will find a special way to celebrate National Live Creative Day! Let us know what you’ll be creating in the comments below—share a photo if you have one! We’d love to see!
