Designer’s Tip: The background of this card was created using sponge daubers and Dazzles™ as a mask. The Dazzles™ leaf that I used repeatedly as a mask ended up on the bottom of the card (it still had some sticky left to adhere). The inside sentiment is computer journaled using 2 fonts in one text box. You can use cosmetic sponges and art daubers interchangeably, however, I thought cosmetic wedges were easier for the overall Aquamarine background (because they cover more area more quickly), and art daubers were much better for inking Mint over the Dazzles™ mask (better for detailed areas, and they avoid the problem of getting hard edges as you would with a wedge-shaped sponge). On the inside, I used a cosmetic wedge to ink the label.
Instructions:
- Place your card opened flat on a scrap piece of paper. Mask above the topmost score lines with stencil tape. Using a cosmetic sponge, lightly dab Aquamarine ink all over the front of the card (below the tape). You can create lighter or darker areas by controlling the amount of ink on the sponge, pressure on the card, or repetition. Once the card is colored to your liking, peel off a large Dazzles™ leaf and place it on the back of your hand to weaken the adhesive a bit. Place randomly on the card front. Take an art dauber and ink over the Dazzles™ with Mint ink, dabbing until the whole shape has been covered. Carefully peel off the Dazzles™ and place it again in another place. Repeat the inking process. Repeat as many times as it takes to cover the whole card front in leaves. Once your background is finished, remove the stencil tape and assemble the center step card according to the package instructions. Place the leaf Dazzles™ at the bottom of the card as shown, and trim off excess (press down firmly). Place the matching leaf at the top as shown and trim excess.
- Glue orange stitched ribbon across the bottom 3/4" from the bottom with Zips™. Glue a bow on the right side as shown. Glue the "extra artwork" 2 leaves from the paper tole to the card in the upper left, slightly going off the edge of the center panel as shown. Assemble the paper tole focal piece and foam tape it to the center as shown.
- For the inside: Glue 6 1/2" x 1" of green pattern paper across the card 1 1/2" from the bottom. Print the sentiment in the center of a 5" square of green/brown texture. Trace Fancy Label A around it and cut out. Ink edges with Timber Brown ink and a cosmetic sponge. Mat on green diamonds paper with a 1/8" border. Glue to card 3/4" from the bottom and 1/2" from the left. Back 2 leaves with green and glue to the top right of the label as shown. Place the compass Dazzles™ as shown, 1/2" from the bottom and 1" from the right.
