Step #1 Photos Both pages: Mat all black and white photos on black cardstock with 1/16” borders. Mat again on Charming pink textured paper with 1/4” borders, then again on black with 1/16” borders. Left page: Place the matted 7”x5” photo on the Charming aqua striped/floral border background paper, even with the right side and 1 1/4" from the top--but don’t glue it in place yet. Crop a photo to a 2 1/4" square and reserve for the kraft mini journal frame. Right page: Place one matted 6”x4” photo on the Charming aqua/pink floral paper 1 1/4” from the left side and 1 1/8” from the top, but don’t glue in place yet. Center the remaining 6”x4” matted photo 1/2" below the first one, but don’t glue it. Crop a photo to a 2 1/4" square and reserve for the kraft mini journal frame.
TECHNIQUE: Background Cut And Lift Paper Technique Left page: Trace around the upper left corner of the photo mat onto the background paper with your pencil. Remove the matted photo. Place the background paper on your cutting mat. Use your knife to cut around only the flower blossoms and leaves cluster that overlap the inside of your pencil line. Lift the cut edges slightly and replace the matted photo on the page beneath the cut edges. Glue the cut leaves and blossoms overlapping the photo/mat as shown. Erase any remaining pencil lines. Right page: Trace around the entire outer edge of each photo mat with your pencil. Remove the matted photos. Place the background paper on your cutting mat and use your knife to cut around only the flower blossom and leaf areas that overlap the inside of your pencil line for each photo. Lift the cut edges slightly and replace the matted photos on the page beneath the cut edges. Glue the cut leaves and blossoms overlapping the photos/mats as shown.
Step #2 JOURNALING Both pages: Write or computer print title, journaling, names, and year on white cardstock then mat on black cardstock with 1/16” borders. Left page: Trim the title to 2 1/8”x1/2” and the year to 3/4"x3/8” before matting on black cardstock. Glue the title on the lower left edge of the photo mat. Reserve the year for the journal frame. Right page: Trim the names to 1 3/4"x1/2” and the journaling block to 2 1/2"x2 3/4" before matting on black. Glue the names on the lower right edge of the bottom photo. Glue the journaling block on the page, 3/4" from the right side and 1 1/4" from the bottom. Font: Fairytales Script, 18pt
TECHNIQUE: Paper-Covered Kraft Journal Frames With Photos & Embellishments Both pages: Cut two kraft journal frames each with 2 open squares. Cover each with Charming pink/black diamonds/swirl border paper. Use your knife and ruler to trim the inside edges evenly. Mat each on black cardstock, leaving a thin border on both the inside and outside edges. Cut two 4 3/4"x1/2” strips from Charming gray/pink floral paper. Mat each on black cardstock with thin borders. Glue 1 piece to each frame along the wide edge, next to the square openings as shown. Glue 3 sequins, evenly spaced on each frame between the 2 openings. Left page: Place one frame horizontally and glue a 2 1/4" square photo beneath the left opening. Glue on the page, 1/2" from the right side and 3/4" from the bottom. Glue the year on the floral paper on the frame as shown. Ink the daisy metal clip with Surfacez black ink and let dry. Zot™ the daisy centered inside the opening on the right side of the frame. Right page: Place the remaining frame horizontally and add a 2 1/4" square photo beneath the bottom opening. Glue on the page, 1/2" from the right side and 2 1/2" from the top. Foam tape the medium butterfly die cut angled inside the top opening of the frame.
TECHNIQUE: Embellishing butterfly die cuts and photos with Sequin Trim Both pages: After cutting lengths of sequin trim, glue the ends of the thread to keep it from raveling. Left page: Cut a 7” length of sequin trim and Zot™ or glue even with the bottom edge of the large photo. Cut a 1 1/2” length of sequin trim, and glue or Zot™ on the body of the large butterfly die cut. Add foam tape to the butterfly body and place angled on the page as shown. Use black swirl organdy ribbon to tie a bow. Zot™ the bow as shown. Right page: Cut two 6” lengths of sequin trim and glue or Zot™ one even with the bottom edge of each 6”x4” photo. Cut a 3/4" length of sequin trim and glue or Zot™ it on the body of the medium butterfly.
