Designer Tip: Make a frame in the swinging rectangle to put your duck face in – this makes it look like a window!

Instructions:

  1. Use a Rectangle Swing Card: Trace and cut the included paper patterns to cover the card left panel, right panel and spine with Home Grown yellow flower paper. Open the card, so it lays flat. Cut a 1½”x7/8” window in the swinging rectangle, leaving a 5/8” frame on the top, left and bottom sides. Cut a ruler from the Home Grown stripe paper. Cut the ruler in half so just the large numbers are shown. Close the card, and on the outside of the swinging rectangle, glue two 3¼” pieces centered on the top and bottom of the window frame, and a 2” piece centered on the right window frame. Glue another 2” ruler strip on the left window frame, 1 1/8” from the left side of the swinging rectangle.
  2. Open the card again, and glue a 6¾"x1/2” Home Grown gingham paper across the card. Cut out a 6¾" length of Home Grown crochet border and glue to the card just covering the bottom gingham edge. Cut a 3 5/16”x1 13/16” Home Grown yellow flower paper and mat on Home Grown red gingham with 1/16” borders. Lightly tack to the back of the swinging rectangle, and turn the card over to the front. Trace the window onto the back of the paper, remove the matted papers and cut out the window. Glue two small pieces of white crochet trim at an angle in the window. Trim the edges even with the rectangle. Glue the matted yellow frame over the crochet trim to cover the loose ends.
  3. Stamp your duck front and back in black ink on white cardstock. Color with Spectrum Noir pens, and cut out close to the edge. Glue the duck “front” to the inside of the swinging rectangle so he is facing out, and peeking through the window. Align the duck “back” with the “front” and glue in place. Zot™ flowers in the bottom right corner of the frame to cover any of the duck that may hang under the window on the front.
  4. Card inside: Computer journal or write “Happy Birthday You” on white cardstock and stamp “Lucky Ducky” in black ink just beneath. Use the Design Tool Kit #6 to trace the small label template around the sentiment and cut out. Ink the edges with Red Barn ink, and mat on Home Grown red gingham with 1/8” borders. Mat again on white cardstock, leaving 1/8” borders. Foam tape to the bottom right corner and Zot™ on flowers as shown.
